The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) is seeking an experienced grants and research professional to manage BCAN’s growing research program. Reporting to the CEO, this leader will be responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight and management of all grant activities including application solicitation, grants management, investigator support, and analysis of program efficacy. This position will manage grants from pre-award through award close-out while collaborating across the organization and working closely with BCAN’s Senior Management Team and Board to successfully achieve desired research outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage BCAN’s award process through all phases of grant cycle (from pre-award through close-out), while ensuring internal controls are met
  • Determine peer review expertise needs and conduct scientific reviewer assessment
  • Evaluate award process and update as needed
  • Collaborate with BCAN colleagues to plan and market BCAN sponsored research program and initiatives to appropriate groups
  • Develop and maintain relationships with all active grantees
  • Track and document professional growth of all BCAN research awardees
  • Serve as staff liaison to Bladder Cancer Research Network (BCRN) management committee
  • Advance BCAN’s research efforts through collaboration on its preeminent annual Think Tank meeting
  • Analyze research content on website and make recommendations to improve
  • Identify strategic research opportunities to further BCAN’s footprint in the research community
  • Gather and analyze data to evaluate, document and report progress of BCAN’s research program efforts.


Educational and work experience requirements

  • Master’s degree is required in health administration or health related field
  • Experience in urology, oncology or related biomedical field preferred
  • 5-7 years of related work experience required
  • Candidate should possess expert knowledge of grant administration
  • Strong interpersonal, writing, and organizational skills
  • Must possess demonstrated ability to anticipate and resolve complex problems as well as plan, organize and prioritize multiple demands efficiently
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Prior experience working in a non-profit scientific research environment a plus
