Job Description Summary:
The Alumni Relations and Development Coordinator will be responsible for supporting all initiatives of the Office of Institutional Advancement, including marketing, public relations, athletics, fundraising, and alumni relations, with social media, video, event planning, relationship building and database management.


Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
• At least two years of work in public relations OR at least two years of work in a field related to institutional advancement
• A strong commitment to professionalism and continuing an atmosphere of institutional collaboration is vital to success in this position
• Excellent verbal, written and persuasive skills


Preferred Qualifications:
• Developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with administrators, coaches, parents, students, alumni, donors, and occasionally, reporters, one-to-one or in groups
• Demonstrated self-starter with ability to both collaborate and work independently as appropriate
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and/or projects and to work under pressure with tact, kindness and discretion
• Excellent organizational skills
• Precise with attention to detail
• Strong work ethic and dedication to the job
• Demonstrated creativity and initiative in developing and carrying out new projects
• Computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office software, Google suite, video and photo editing software and social media platforms
• Light HTML coding and/or familiarity with web content management platforms
• Experience with a customer relationship management (CRM) or student information system (SIS)


Other Information:
The Alumni Relations and Development Coordinator works in collaboration with other members of the Office of Institutional Advancement on the following:

• Building and maintaining relationships with members of the community, including the SMC Foundation Board of Directors
• Planning, concepting and executing social media campaigns to boost alumni and community engagement with performing arts, athletics and Southwestern Michigan College as a whole
• Creating visual and video presentations that inspire internal and external stakeholders to act in support of the College.
• Drafting and distributing/publishing various content pieces that promote the College, as well as specific initiatives within the College
• Ensuring that certain sections of the College websites are kept fresh and current
• Responding to inquiries from community members and other interested parties; when needed, recruiting a knowledgeable spokesperson or information source to assist
• Building, maintaining and leveraging the alumni database in Excel or Salesforce CRM
• Planning, concepting and executing special events, outreach programs or press conferences appropriate for the department, including recruitment and managing of volunteers as necessary
• Occasional evening or weekend hours and light travel within the region may be necessary with notice, for events like meetings of the SMC Foundation Board of Directors, donor meetings, performances, athletic contests, off-campus events or other opportunities to enhance the College’s reputation
