Roundabout Theatre Company, the nation’s largest not-for-profit theatre, seeks a personable and strategy-oriented individual with excellent communication skills to join the company’s Development Department as the Major Gifts Manager. The position reports to the Associate Director of Individual Giving, serving in an important frontline fundraising role on the Individual Giving team within a department that raises $18+ million annually.

This is some of what the Major Gifts Manager will do:

  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of high-capacity individual donors and prospects, with a personal focus on upgrading mid-level donors ($3,000+) to major donors ($15,000+)
  • Interact directly with donors and prospects to deepen engagement over the phone, via email, via video conferencing, and in person at special events and one-on-one meetings
  • Implement strategy to sustain and grow the Chairman’s Circle program in collaboration with Patron Services Associate with a particular focus on mid-level and major donor acquisition and upgrade campaigns
  • Draft formal solicitations and major proposals for designated and production-specific support
  • Manage major gift prospect pipeline, including data analysis, identification, prioritization, and portfolio assignment
  • Develop and oversee robust, team-wide moves management practices, designing prospect cultivation road maps, streamlining outreach for frontline fundraisers, and improving tracking systems through Tessitura
  • Manage Individual Giving team research needs with the support of the Individual Giving Assistant in completing donor and prospect briefings
  • Lead and prepare materials for monthly major gift prospecting meetings

This is what the Major Gifts Manager should bring:

3-4 years fundraising experience with at least 2+ years as front-line fundraiser, preferably in the performing arts field, and Bachelor’s degree preferred. Passion for theatre is a must.

Must have advanced skills in written and verbal communication (language skills required: English). Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required. Knowledge of Tessitura or related CRM database required.

In addition to the necessary technical abilities, the right candidate will demonstrate strong project management and organizational skills, think creatively and strategically, take initiative, and be comfortable interacting directly with high-profile donors and senior staff. The ideal candidate will be committed to helping Roundabout diversify its donor base over time and implement equitable, anti-racist fundraising practices.

The target start date is August 2, 2021. Roundabout plans to resume full-time, in-person work for administrative staff right after Labor Day (September 2021), but for this position, some in-person onboarding during the month of August may be required. The salary range for the role is $59,000 - $63,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package offered. Some evening and weekend work required.
