World Learning’s Director of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships plays a vital role in the organization and will lead in crafting a results-oriented strategy that impacts the organization’s mission at scale. The Director of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships is responsible for building new funder relations, conducting outreach and positioning, demonstrating thought leadership to promote World Learning, and leveraging shared value with the public sector team. The position will maintain and expand existing relationships and initiate new contacts with the foundation and corporate sector. The Director of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships will have a global mindset, be creative, have the emotional intelligence to work within a matrixed organization consisting of both an accredited high education institution and an international non-profit. The Director should be able to facilitate cross-departmental collaborations to generate impactful and innovative programs. Reporting to World Learning’s Vice President of Business Development Unit, the Director will be a senior member of the team of dedicated professionals responsible for generating restricted grants and contracts. The position will support USG procurements with public-private partnerships and cost-share strategies. 

 

Responsibilities:

•    Lead the development and execution of World Learning’s private grants strategy to support the organization’s five-year Strategic Plan, including annual revenue targets.

•     Contribute to overall organizational strategies by conceptualizing approaches to align programs with funder priorities and working with senior leadership and program staff to refine pitches to potential funders. 

•    Develop and maintain relationships with current funders, adapt strategies as needed, and identify new prospects in coordination with VP Business Development, senior leadership, and program personnel. 

•    Lead a team of two direct reports in identifying new prospects, researching, developing, executing cultivation and solicitation strategies, and completing all reporting requirements.

•    Oversee the submission of all Expressions of Interest, concepts, proposals, pitches, and reports to funders following the organization’s business development processes.

•    Network and demonstrate thought leadership in building partnerships and networks with other industry professionals, civil society organizations, public-private partnerships, and other external relationships with the potential to support World Learning’s revenue pipeline. 

•    Support U.S. government and other public-sector solicitations and proposal teams to develop strategies to respond to private sector involvement or cost-share requirements.

•    Use Salesforce to track and report on client relationships and grant management processes. 

•    Build capacity of program staff working on private grant implementation on client relationship management, help them problem solve, and communicate success stories. 

•    Develop program budgets that align with World Learning’s cost recovery goals and meet funders’ demands, all in coordination with the finance department and program units.

•    Coordinate with Marketing and Communications on communication strategies, Philanthropy, the School for International Training’s Alumni office, and Finance and Administration as needed. 

•    Assist the Vice President in the department’s management, including building team morale, capabilities and taking on other leadership responsibilities as assigned. 

•    Motivate and support volunteer leadership (Trustees, donors, volunteers) for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship visits to foundations and corporations with a clear articulation of our value proposition.

•    Support direct reports’ professional growth with consistent, constructive feedback and career opportunities to successfully contribute to World Learning’s revenue growth.

•    Perform all other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

•    Excellent leadership, management, supervisory, analytical, writing, and representational skills to successfully navigate through a matrixed organization.

•    Demonstrated track record of generating between $2 million to $3 million from foundation and corporate sources annually with at least ten years of professional experience in mid-to-senior level positions. 

•    Demonstrated record developing of long-term funder relationships and willingness to bring these relationships to World Learning.

•    Prior experience working in higher education institutions and/or non-profits.

•    Prior participation in World Learning programs (for example, Experiment in International Living, SIT Study Abroad, SIT Graduate Institute) helpful although not essential.

•    Ability to be efficiently self-supporting with basic office technology. Knowledge of database systems, expertise with Salesforce, and desktop publishing software including PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Word. 

•    Strong interpersonal skills, including working independently and collaboratively with colleagues, senior management, donors, faculty, administrators, and volunteers, and consultants required. 

•    Graduate degree in relevant field; knowledge of a second language desirable. 

•    Adaptable to working in a dynamic environment to respond to opportunities that arise rapidly; and travel domestically and internationally as needed.
