Digital Communication Manager Role

The Urban Assembly (UA), a model provider of school support solutions that boost student and school performance, is seeking a Digital Communication Manager to help the Urban Assembly to grow as an innovative leader in public education. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for building brand awareness, engagement, and community across all social and digital platforms. You will lead end-to-end content creation for all social media channels, websites, email newsletters, and other editorial platforms. You’ll also help build relationships with other digital communities that align with our brand. This role is critical in building our audience organically and through paid media to ensure content is driving growth. This role reports to the Director of Advancement.

The Urban Assembly’s mission is to advance students’ social and economic mobility by improving public education. The UA provides schools and districts with innovative data-driven, student-centered approaches to career and technical education, academics, social-emotional learning, and postsecondary access and success. The (UA) founded a network of unique, small public secondary schools throughout NYC. UA schools are open to all students, and our goal is to prepare 100% of UA graduates for success in the 21st-century economy.

Job Description

The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and communicator who can build and execute a content strategy that attracts, engages, and activates our target audience. You are digitally savvy, quick on your feet, obsessed with what’s trending, and love engaging in meaningful conversations. You understand the importance of knowing your audience, what resonates with them, and how to distill complex ideas into fresh, creative, and compelling content. 



    Create high-quality, relevant, and engaging content across all digital and social channels (social media, website, e-newsletters, and e-communications) that helps our target audience understand the value and impact of the Urban Assembly Create marketing materials for upcoming UA events, workshops, and initiatives, consistent with brand look and tone Write, edit, curate, schedule, and publish original social media and editorial content that reflects our brand tone and voice Manage editorial content calendar for all digital platforms, supporting brand awareness initiatives, and identifying key moments in education and culture  Collaborate with brand and community partners on digital and social marketing campaigns Analyze and report on social media, website, and email campaign performance Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SEO best practices, tools, and tactics Perform keyword research, audits, and analysis to support content development and improve search ranking for online campaigns.  Support the Director of Advancement in special projects and events.

We expect the work to be broad-ranging, requiring someone who can jump into a variety of different roles. As a growing organization, we expect that the specific needs will shift over time. A proactive and flexible mindset will be essential for success.



To be most effective in this role, you must be a highly effective communicator (verbal and written), both a strategic and tactical thinker and planner, and a creative  “people motivator” who inspires others to do excellent work. Additional qualifications include:

    At least 3 years of experience creating social media, website, and email content and growing audience and engagement for a brand Experience with all major social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube Excellent grammar and written communication skills win an ability to adapt tone and voice to various audiences Experience with e-newsletters, CMS, and analytics tools, including Google Analytics, Constant Contact, Squarespace, and WordPress Experience with design tools like Adobe Design Suite and Canva Photography and video editing skills a plus Familiarity with online event platforms (Zoom, Eventbrite, GoToMeeting, etc.) preferred Knowledge of emerging platforms, digital culture, and technology  Previous experience in non-profit and/or education preferred A proactive approach to managing complex cross-team initiatives Ability to quickly switch contexts and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is in the mid $70s, and includes an excellent benefits package; including employer-funded healthcare, monthly MetroCard, financial support for professional development, and generous vacation time.
