SENIOR MANAGER OF PATRON ENGAGEMENT

 

Position Overview

 

The Senior Manager of Patron Engagement is a full-time position that serves as a frontline fundraiser for individual giving initiatives. The Senior Manager of Patron Engagement is responsible for building and maintaining donor relationships and increasing individual support and engagement with the Museum.

The Senior Manager of Patron Engagement manages a significant portfolio of donors and prospects, oversees the Museum’s membership programs, supports giving by individuals to exhibitions and programs, and develops robust patron travel and engagement opportunities. She/He/They are responsible for ensuring the success of the individual giving annual goal (≈ $2.5M annually).

 

Responsibilities include: managing the Art Study Tour (AST) program, organizing dynamic patron programming, stewarding and cultivation of individuals for donor councils and membership programs, researching and cultivating new supporters, and overseeing seamless donor relationship and benefits management. She/He/They work closely with patrons to develop deeper relationships between donors/prospects and the New Museum and works closely with the Director of Development and Associate Director of Development to advance individual giving and membership strategies and support the department goals. She/He/They is a key staff member representing the Museum at donor events. She/He/They reports to the Associate Director of Development and supervises the Development Assistant.

 

Areas of Oversight

 

  • NM Councils and Membership: Be an accessible primary point of contact for New Museum patron groups including the Contemporary Council, Producers Council, Artemis Council, Fellows, Corporate Members, and other member groups. Meet annual fundraising goals for these Councils and memberships; steward and cultivate a robust and desirable Council and Member community. Manage all Council and Member programming and administer annual benefit fulfillment.

 

  • Donor Events: Develop and implement a quarterly calendar of extraordinary events and distinctive programs for membership groups. Ensure extremely high-quality events that resonate with New Museum mission in collaboration with Curatorial department. Oversee event staffing and flawless execution.

 

  • Travel Programming: Organize, plan, and escort international and domestic Art Study Tours (AST) in collaboration with the Associate Director of Development. Manage multiple Art Study Tour (AST) expense budgets and meet annual revenue goals.

 

  • Donor Stewardship: Maintain relationships with donors and prospects via regular phone calls, personal visits, and written correspondence. Communicate details of all Museum programming for regular donor participation and engagement. Document donor meetings and interactions with accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality. Participate actively in planning and strategy development, qualifying donors, and prospects for solicitation in collaboration with the Individual Giving team and Director of Development.

 

  • NM Membership: Integrate goals for membership groups into the overall strategy for donor prospecting, cultivation/upgrade, stewardship, and brand promotion. Oversight and strategic direction in achievement of annual membership goals, benefit fulfillment, and smooth day to day operations.

 

  • Exhibition and Program Gifts: Developing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors with special focus on specific exhibition and program gifts. Develop donor research and manage outreach, supporting curators and other staff.

 

  • Budgeting and Reporting: Analyze and present regular revenue reports to the Associate Director of Development and Director of Development. Supervise invoicing, acknowledgement, recognition, and proper documentation for all donor areas listed above.

 

  Qualifications and Requirements

 

The Senior Manager of Patron Engagement is an achievement-oriented development professional with a proven ability to solicit and close gifts from individuals. She/He/They must be a team player committed to developing and working within a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three to five years of experience in not-for-profit fundraising or sales at a contemporary art gallery; excellent communication skills in written and oral presentation, as well as strong strategic and operational management skills. She/He/They will have experience with travel programs, event planning and programming. The Senior Manager of Patron Engagement will have the ability to perform under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment; the ability to multi-task, establish priorities and react when those priorities shift. She/He/They must be able to attend evening events as required.

 

Bachelor’s degree required Master’s degree preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge or comparable donor database program is essential. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in soliciting gifts of $10,000 and greater; She/He/They will be detail-oriented with the ability to manage projects from inception through execution. Knowledge of contemporary art, major philanthropists/collectors, and the international art community is essential; ability to build networks and develop relationships with diverse constituencies is necessary.
