Purpose

The Director of Development, Alumni will be responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift alumni prospects and donors. This position is an integral leader of the MCW School of Medicine, Graduate School and School of Pharmacy.

 

The Director works closely with MCW leadership, faculty, administrators, benefactors, and Board members to secure leadership commitments at the $100,000+ level in support of research and education initiatives supporting the Medical College of Wisconsin programs.

 

Primary Functions

Understands the mission and philanthropic priorities of the Medical College of Wisconsin and works collaboratively across the organization to build on our collective success. Comprehensive understanding of the strategic priorities.

Builds and manages a portfolio of approximately 150 alumni prospects and donors with capacity to contribute major gifts. Develops and executes strategies designed to realize the current and lifetime giving potential of major gift prospects.

Focuses on qualification efforts to identify and advance donors from annual giving to major giving.

Provides high-level philanthropic staffing and management of the Deans of the Medical School, School of Pharmacy and Graduate School.

Establishes deep relationships with MCW leaders and administrators to define and promote philanthropic priorities. Builds a culture of philanthropy within MCW educational programs to encourage alumni giving.

Understands and articulates philanthropic priorities across MCW, effectively matching the interests of alumni prospects to institutional priorities and ensure effective stewardship of donor relationships.

Partners with the Executive Director of the Alumni Association to leverage ongoing engagement activity. Establishes regional engagement strategies to enhance connectivity of alumni to MCW.

 Participates in advancement activities and events, including dinners, receptions, and other fundraising initiatives. 

Reviews and ensures continued accuracy of his/her portfolio in database software. Records proposals and actions about prospects and donors in a timely fashion in database. 

Accountable to annual individual performance goal metrics as well as strategic goals and objectives of department.

Domestic travel required.

Specifications

Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Required Experience: 4 years’ experience

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Experience: Fund raising experience closing major gifts; higher education experience a plus.
