The Bassett Healthcare Network (BHN) seeks a dynamic, experienced executive to serve as its next Chief Development Officer (CDO). Centered in the idyllic village of Cooperstown, the BHN is the premier healthcare provider in a nine-county region of central and upstate New York covering 5,600 square miles, providing a full continuum of care options through five hospitals and dozens of care facilities, physician practices and school-based health centers. BHN has more than 5,000 employees and its annual revenues are nearly $1 billion. The hub of the network is Bassett Medical Center, which, in addition to traditional hospital-based care also offers sophisticated outpatient diagnostic and treatment capabilities. This nationally recognized teaching hospital is also home to the Bassett Heart Care Institute and the Bassett Cancer Institute.

In addition to the hospital, the Bassett Medical Group staffs over two dozen community-based primary care centers. Bassett’s 20 school-based health centers across four counties provide medical, mental health and preventive dental care to children without access to care. Bassett Healthcare Network also has four community hospitals as well as a home care provider, rehabilitation services facilities and long-term care facilities. The BHN's affiliation with Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and its Research Institute allow continual advancement of its tri-partite mission of patient care, teaching and research.

Reporting to the President and CEO of Bassett Healthcare Network, the Chief Development Officer leads a team of seven and is responsible for the overall management, coordination and direction of the fundraising operation across the entire BHN and the Friends of Bassett Healthcare Network Foundation. The next CDO will join the organization at a critical and exciting time in its fundraising history. Dr. Tommy Ibrahim became President and CEO of the BHN in July 2020 and immediately launched a dynamic strategic planning process to review BHN's direction. Using the priorities generated by this work, the CDO will be able to launch a comprehensive development effort that will make a significant impact.

Central to this impact will be to develop a strategic development plan based on a deep assessment of the current fundraising program. The BHN CEO, volunteer leaders and the fundraising team are ready for a new philanthropic vision, and the CDO will be expected to implement a metrics-driven, goal oriented roadmap. Included in this plan must be the development of a culture of philanthropy within BHN and in the communities it serves.

The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with a commitment to best practices in the profession. Substantial and successful experience with organizational growth and change is of particular importance, as is significant experience cultivating and closing major and principal gifts. The CDO will understand and appreciate the entirety of a development program. Superior communication and relationship-building skills are essential in working with a wide-ranging donor base that includes a number of historic families in the Cooperstown region. Strong leadership skills with experience in a fast-paced, results-oriented culture are required.
