Schedule: Full Time

*This is a remote position.  In this position, you will travel extensively within the East Coast Territory (i.e. New England, New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, DC, and Florida) to meet with donors and prospects.

Responsibilities: 

The Regional Philanthropy Officer manages relationships with qualified major donor prospects who have been determined to have the ability to make gifts at or above $10,000, with focus on those in the $10,000 to $99,000 range. This position also develops and implements strategies for securing financial support from a portfolio of donor prospects and moves prospects through all phases of the process including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding.

  • Develops a caseload of active major gift prospects; sets and carries out strategies for solicitation of those prospects.
  • Achieves annual fundraising and activity goals of $250,000 to $1,000,000 in new commitments.
  • Initiates contacts with potential donors.
  • Participates in the creation and implementation of strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and closure.
  • Determines whether an individual is capable of making a major gift or a special gift and devises appropriate strategies for solicitation and closure.
  • Determines cultivation time committed versus expected gift response, includes others who need to be involved in the relationship with the prospective donor, and decides the most effective and productive use of travel time.
  • Participates in the long-range planning for the portfolio managed.
  • Records all activities and initiatives in Donor Database according to Boys Town policy.
  • Manages and meets budgetary objectives in each physical year and is part of the budget process identifying funding for strategic goals and objectives.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience including major individual gift fundraising experience and cultivating and soliciting prospects capable of five and six-figure gifts.
  • Must be able to travel around the region and to other areas of the country and must provide own transportation (mileage reimbursed) to complete local travel requirements of the job; available to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle including initiating contacts with potential donors, developing appropriate cultivation strategies, moving potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure, making solicitations when appropriate, and maintaining stewardship contacts with donors.
  • Understanding of the needs and interests of major donors to develop relationships between them and the organization.
  • Knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets, and estates.
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels in the organization and with external business contacts in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality.
  • Solid relationship-building skills and ability to interface with donors at all levels.
  • Ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate, and advance strategic development plans.
  • Ability to articulate the case for support so that individuals buy in to the vision, mission, and goals and with sufficient effectiveness to secure gifts at assigned donor giving levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to solicit gifts at $25,000 or higher.
  • Experience with recording information into a donor database (Blackbaud CRM) preferred.
