We are seeking a Director of Panned Giving to join our Advancement Department; a professional with a passion and deep understanding for the meaning of philanthropy and how it transforms the lives of a donor as much as an agency.  The candidate should have a genuine respect and appreciation for people, and a passion for the work of The Lord’s Place and its clients.  He/She must be prepared for a fast-paced environment filled with high-energy and motivated individuals who all strive to make an impact on the homeless community.

 

Overview:

Implement, review, and improve a Planned Giving Program with a focus on stewardship and cultivation of planned giving donors and prospects.  Collaborate with Advancement staff and professional advisory group to identify, cultivate, and thank Legacy Circle partners and prospects, and focus on those who have an expressed interest in planned giving.  Provide expertise and guidance, as well as track and follow up with commitments.  Provide management oversight for all systems and services related to these forms of fundraising including prospect research, donor database management, gift processing and donor acknowledgement and stewardship. 

 

Candidate Profile:

  • College Degree with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of securing planned gifts.
  • Substantial, progressively responsible advancement and/or non-profit experience, preferably in higher education or equivalent experience in financial management or trust administration.
  • Solid knowledge of planned giving instruments in a non-profit setting or financial planning/trust administration.
  • Thorough knowledge of current tax laws and their implication on planned giving and estate planning, as well as legal and financial aspects of charitable contributions.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement sophisticated fundraising strategies for the successful cultivation and solicitation of major gifts using planned giving techniques.
  • Experience and/or ability to design, implement, and market a comprehensive planned giving program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the full spectrum of development principles and activities including gift policies, solicitations, stewardship, donor recognition, administration, working with high-level volunteer committees, and the ability to apply this knowledge creatively to specific fund-raising projects.
  • Superior written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with donors, donors' financial and legal advisors, volunteers, and colleagues, including people of differing temperaments, socioeconomic backgrounds and political/ethical philosophies. Ability to express concisely and persuasively the mission of the agency and the fundraising goals.
  • Ability to create and sustain donor trust and relationships among a broad donor constituency including high-wealth individuals.
  • Ability to listen carefully to what people are saying and translate their interest and resources into gifts needed by the agency.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as to serve as a key member of the advancement team.
  • Ability to function effectively and independently in a fast-paced environment filled with high-energy individuals with discretion, patience, flexibility, enthusiasm, and humor.
  • Genuine respect and appreciation for people; ability to build connections and trust.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, meet deadlines, think creatively.
  • Solid computer proficiency including database (Raiser’s Edge experience highly recommended), word processing and spreadsheet experience.
  • Requires ability to operate business equipment used daily within the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement a comprehensive plan in alignment with Advancement strategic plan, which ultimately focuses on stewardship and cultivation of planned giving donors and prospects.
  • Review current planned giving documents and processes.
  • Organize a systematic approach to facilitate donor research, identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Create a professional advisory group for planned giving resources and pipeline.
  • Articulate the case for support to a wide range of individual and institutional donors.
  • Prepare key staff and Board members to interact with planned giving prospects; and participate with them in cultivation and solicitation as necessary.
  • Work with PR Consultant and Advancement Team to update, brand and maintain all documents and digital media pertaining to planned giving.
  • Further develop the Legacy Circle including seminars, celebrations, recognitions and stewardship activities.
  • Attend Planned Giving Council events/ workshops to enhance network/knowledge.
  • Update and maintain the agency donor database to ensure accuracy (Raiser’s Edge) as well as maintain a portfolio of individual prospects.
  • Assist the Chief Advancement Officer in any aspect of Advancement, as needed. This includes all appeals, campaigns, grants, monthly giving, fundraising, special events, and special projects.
