Director of Advancement and Donor Impact

Miami Waterkeeper (MWK) is an award-winning non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Biscayne Bay and the surrounding watershed. Launched in 2010, MWK has become a leading advocate for clean water, inspiring a movement of empowered citizens dedicated to achieving swimmable, drinkable, fishable water. Addressing issues on multiple fronts, we use community outreach, scientific research, and civic and legal action to advance our mission. Miami Waterkeeper is seeking a dynamic individual who is passionate about our mission and desires to support our clean water goals. The Director of Advancement and Donor Impact will lead our staff and Board to develop and execute strategic fundraising and marketing initiatives, with a focus on building sustainable funding and brand awareness for the organization. This individual will work with the Executive Director to set the tone that all stakeholders play a crucial role in building support -- financially and otherwise -- for our organization’s work. Fostering relationships, both internally and in the community, is a key strategy to achieve increased engagement on all levels. 

 

ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement comprehensive, donor-centered strategies to increase individual, corporate, and foundation giving 
  • Lead major gifts program (identification, cultivation, solicitation)
  • Manage Executive Director’s stewardship of major donors
  • Oversee community and private grants management
  • Oversee annual giving strategy and execution
  • Ensure donor-centered gift acknowledgement and recognition
  • Maximize fundraising database and tracking system  
  • Integrate and monitor marketing and communications strategic and tactical initiatives
  • Support fundraising goals and enhance the organization’s visibility
  • Develop innovative stakeholder-focused campaigns
  • Oversee strategy that drives donations, grows awareness, and measures the user experience
  • Oversee creation of publications
  • Directly supervise team members, with a focus on collaboration with the other departments to advance the mission of the organization

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent the organization at speaking engagements and other events
  • Lead event strategy for the State of the Water (annual) and other stewardship events
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and the Board Development & Marketing Committee to engage them in the organization’s development and marketing efforts
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to build a culture of philanthropy within the organization
  • Develop a strong familiarity with the organization and its program-related activities

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of nonprofit development and marketing experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a managerial role leading a team of young professionals
  • Demonstrable experience as a fundraising generalist, with hands-on practice at institutional giving/grant writing, major gifts, annual giving, corporate partnership building, special events, and online giving campaigns
  • Experience managing and improving development operations, ranging from CRM management to budget monitoring to gift processing

 

SALARY RANGE

$70,000-$80,000
