Ares Management Corporation (“Ares” or “the Firm”) is looking for a professional to join our Philanthropy team in either Culver City (Los Angeles) or New York.  The Philanthropy team is part of the broader global Human Resources team and actively supports our local communities where we do business.  This includes through Ares In Motion (“AIM”), our platform through which we encourage employees’ donations to nonprofits and promote volunteer opportunities. In addition, we augment employees’ contributions to the nonprofits of their choice through our charitable matching program.

This individual will help strategically evolve and expand AIM to further embed Philanthropy into the Firm’s culture through an aligned approach to global giving and involvement. They will oversee Ares’ charitable matching program as well as design and deliver opportunities for high-engagement volunteerism that leverages employees’ talent and expertise in accord with Ares’ core values.  They will report directly to the Head of Philanthropy and play a critical part in overseeing a portfolio of global initiatives that help attain Ares’ philanthropic goals. 

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in either philanthropy or a relevant field, strong project management skills, excellent communication and influencing skills, and the highest degree of integrity and judgment.  They will be detail-oriented, accuracy-focused, flexible and collaborative in approach, and possess a process-improvement mindset.  This role is a great opportunity for a candidate who is eager to join Ares’ Philanthropy team at a critical juncture in its evolution.

 

Reports to:  Head of Philanthropy and Executive Director, Ares Charitable Foundation

 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Enhance the employee experience through the design, implementation and oversight of activities that drive alignment between Ares’ investment and business activities and the Firm’s positive societal impact
  • Promote and scale up the Firm’s charitable matching program through communications, events and recognition efforts that increase employee giving
  • Refine existing, and develop, new employee volunteer opportunities (with emphasis on those that are skills-based) to establish and model best-in-class practices that distinguish Ares for firmwide engagement initiatives
  • Develop and deploy tools to continuously listen to and dialogue with employees to ascertain their perspectives, understand and manage their expectations, and solicit their opinion to cultivate a positive firm culture
  • Define appropriate key performance indicators (“KPIs”) and develop necessary instruments to measure, assess and report on employee engagement to turn data into actionable insights for evidence-based decision-making
  • Collaborative with, and provide critical consultative guidance and support to, key functional partners to bridge firmwide efforts that advance Ares’ priorities and reflect our core values
  • Identify, procure and manage vendors as needed to ensure access to products and services required for the effectiveness and efficiency of engagement initiatives
  • Innovate opportunities for, and deliver value to, portfolio companies and industry colleagues so that they desire to give and get involved
  • Heighten visibility for Ares and our Philanthropy among internal and external stakeholders, and thereby increase the Firm’s brand recognition and reputational standing

Education: Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, or equivalent work experience

Experience Required:  

  • 8+ years’ experience in client, customer, community and/or employee leadership roles, preferably within a global context
  • 5+ years’ experience in the design, delivery and scale-up of strategy-aligned employee engagement and/or volunteer management programming, preferably within a global context
  • Significant volunteer management, including a customer-centric focus that inspires giving and involvement as well as puts people first by listening, sensing and responding to their concerns and needs with informed empathy
  • Deep understanding of:
    • customer service excellence
    • nonprofit organizations and the ways donors and volunteers can support their delivery of programming and services to the populations they benefit
    • philanthropy and foundation practices, including grantmaking, development/fundraising and board governance
  • Extensive collaboration with colleagues across multiple functions, including those in senior and executive leadership
  • Proven record of mobilizing, understanding and supporting diverse populations to foster equity and inclusion through engagement activities
  • Proven record of expert relationship management of internal and external stakeholders
  • Quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis and reporting to support storytelling and continuously strengthen practice
  • Marketing and branding of initiatives and activities to inspire civic responsibility
  • Relevant background and experience in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (“DE&I”) and Environment, Social and Governance (“ESG”) preferred

General Requirements:

  • Ability to articulate a vision to teams across the organization and business, with excellent creative thinking skills
  • Strong project management skills, including to successfully mitigate risk and concurrently manage competing priorities within specified schedules and budgets
  • Understanding of vendor identification, procurement and management
  • Ability to build sustainable relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to provide cultural insights, emerging market demographic analysis, and socio‐economic conditions and indicators as well as translate these into strategy and improvement opportunities
  • Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge to utilize various technology and digital platforms
  • Dependable, great attitude, highly motivated and a team player
  • Outstanding communication (written and verbal), presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to confidently interact with all levels of an organization
  • Outstanding proficiency in mentoring and guiding others as well as in teambuilding
  • Sound judgment and decision-making as well as ability to handle confidential information appropriately
  • Ability to be flexible in terms of hours in order to coordinate with team members across various time zones
