The Assistant Vice President for Development will manage Ball State University Foundation’s major gift staff; work in partnership with the Vice President for Development to create the philanthropic strategy for major giving; monitor staff metrics and produce reports; maintain a portfolio of 20-30 high level donors and prospects.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Five years of professional development experience. Major gift experience in higher education or related area. Experience as a successful member of a multi-staff major gifts team. Direct involvement with six-figure and seven-figure gifts/solicitations. Must be a strategic thinker with big ideas and the ability to drive positive change. Possess a strong business acumen. Ability to promote a best-practices mindset for the development of individual staff and collective major gifts team. Possess exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, including a gift for public speaking and a capacity to listen. The ability to interface with staff and volunteers in a collaborative manner and initiate and maintain relationships with donors, alumni, university and community representatives. Curious, ambitious, creative, collaborative and service-driven. Willingness and ability to travel; possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.

 

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited institution. Experience with one or more of the other non-major gift areas such as planned giving, corporate giving and foundation grants. At least seven years of experience in successful fundraising and in planning and implementing a comprehensive campaign. Experience in higher education or comparable area. Leadership of a multi-staff major gifts team. Three years of experience in higher education fundraising. The ability to effectively represent Ball State University Foundation to internal and external constituents; supportive of the mission, philosophy and values of Ball State University; action oriented; the ability to empower.
