Lake Forest College (www.lakeforest.edu) invites applications for the position of Vice President for Advancement and Secretary of the College.  Founded in 1857 and located 30 miles north of Chicago on a beautiful 107-acre campus near Lake Michigan, Lake Forest is a highly selective liberal arts college that enrolls 1,650 students from nearly every state and 80 countries. For this leadership position, the College seeks exceptional applicants who have the experience and expertise to lead strong development and alumni relations programs, and major gift campaigns.

Lake Forest successfully navigated the pandemic and stands today in a very strong position.  The fall entering class of 450 students is one of the largest, best qualified, and most diverse in history.   Peer institutions envy our broad, deep connections to the world-class city of Chicago.  The College’s academic partnership with nearby Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science has produced a unique Health Professions Program.  Comprehensive giving campaigns have raised more than $300 million in the past two decades, and the College’s national rankings have never been higher. https://www.lakeforest.edu/about-us/reputation-and-rankings

Reporting to President Stephen D. Schutt and joining his leadership team, the Vice President will be an Officer of the College with responsibility for fundraising, stewardship, and alumni, parent and community engagement programs.  The Vice President will also serve as liaison to an outstanding Board of Trustees.

The College is now beginning a year-long planning process that will confirm future priorities and produce a new five-year plan next spring.  Thereafter, the College will lay the groundwork for a new comprehensive campaign to support the five-year plan’s priorities.  The Vice President will work with the President, Trustees, and Development staff to prepare and carry out the campaign.

The Vice President’s salary will be competitive, as will the College’s generous benefits package.  Qualifications for this leadership position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree preferred
  • Leadership experience in a sophisticated development operation and major campaigns
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and develop professional staff and the diverse elements of development and alumni relations programs
  • Strong motivation to meet goals and increase capital, major, annual, and planned giving
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and team-building skills
  • Well-developed public speaking, writing and campaign communication skills
  • Clear understanding and appreciation of the College’s educational mission

Interested candidates should electronically submit a cover letter, resume, and contact information for three references to lueders@lakeforest.edu. Application materials will be held in confidence.  Review of applications will begin promptly and continue until the position is filled.  The College anticipates that the new Vice President for Advancement and Secretary will begin work by September 2021.  Lake Forest College embraces diversity and encourages applications from women, members of historically underrepresented or marginalized groups, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.
