Position Summary:  

The Senior Vice President, Philanthropic Advancement, oversees the business development and relationship management functions of the Advancement department, managing a team of professionals dedicated to each major client center. As a member of FFTC’s Leadership Team, the SVP leads FFTC’s client facing activities to grow and retain revenue and serves as a critical member of cross-functional leadership team to ensure a positive client experience and advance the strategic civic and business priorities of FFTC. 

The SVP will lead the strategic growth, retention, and engagement of FFTC’s fundholders. The SVP will drive the strategic development and manage team operations, including client management, budget & revenue, planning, programming and events, and business development.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategy, Leadership & Business Development

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the retention and growth of FFTC client funds
  • Utilize strategic vision to develop and drive annual development work plans focused on outcomes which align with FFTC’s overall goals and plans
  • Actively pursue marketing & product development strategies to cultivate new business growth for the Centers for Giving
  • Lead the team for FFTC’s client activity in strategy to monitor current business trends, build and analyze business intelligence, and engage in product development to best position FFTC for future growth, success and sustainability in the philanthropic marketplace
  • Partner with key internal business functions, including IT, donor services, finance and investments, and executive leadership, to oversee projects that impact the client experience and enhance service delivery (includes but not is limited to development of investment products, regular competitor analysis and administrative pricing review, exploration of new product lines, input for online portal, fund statements or other client facing resources)
  • Oversee development of major prospects, particularly those with complex asset gifting, legacy or business continuity plans, and/or family engagement/grantmaking goals
  • Oversee development efforts for major nonprofit endowment acquisition and/or significant corporate philanthropy relationships
  • Oversee the planned giving discipline for FFTC, including any dedicated staff, to promote planned giving across FFTC’s regional footprint and in coordination with the Executive Office with a particular emphasis on growing unrestricted assets for FFTC grantmaking
  • Serve as relationship manager or leadership team representative as part of relationship management team for significant client relationships as assigned/appropriate
  • Manage professional team dedicated to the business development, of the 3 centers for giving and planned giving; work in tandem with SVP Legal in complex client issues, major prospects, and internal team operations and management.
  • Supervises assigned direct reports and works to develop skills and competencies; maintains high morale, team retention and productivity; accountable for required managerial tasks
  • Report to leadership regularly on growth and retention targets
  • Train and educate prospects, clients and professional advisors/key referral sources regarding FFTC products and services to grow the business of FFTC; represent FFTC at community events, panels and speaking engagements and leadership activities; work with Leadership Team to promote thought leadership and charitable expertise of Advancement team to grow the business of the Foundation.
  • Leverage best practices in strategic philanthropy, family engagement, nonprofit endowment management and corporate social responsibility to -deliver a highly customized and unique service experience FFTC clients
  • Promote grantmaking discipline across the enterprise through identification & promotion of best practices and application of shared learnings; engage with executive leadership on major fundraising campaigns as applicable
Marketing & Product Development

  • Identify and execute strategic projects related to FFTC’s value proposition, marketing efforts, customer service, custom experience and other aspects that directly impact FFTC clients
  • In conjunction the marketing & communication teams, direct efforts aimed at cultivating new business for the unit such as creation of marketing collateral, identification of media channels and outlets, direct mail campaigns, and providing content for FFTC materials (newsletter, annual report)
  • Serve in a leadership capacity on cross-functional teams directing strategic projects impacting the Centers for Giving, including investments, pricing, product development, database management, financial systems, and client reporting.

Job Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is required
  • MBA, law degree or other graduate experience and/or licensure preferred (CFP, CIMA, etc.)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a financial organization, nonprofit/philanthropic organization, or corporate community affairs
  • Proven track record and a career history that demonstrates the ability to succeed in complex operating environments with multiple constituencies
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
  • General ability to perform the essential functions and overall physical and mental requirements of this position, including stamina to perform tasks over extended periods and ability to occasionally move about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite and/or workstation to another

This position is in Charlotte, NC. While we are working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, the position will require in-person presence in Charlotte.
