STATUS: Full-time exempt

LOCATION: National (remote is possible)

START DATE: Immediately

Literacy Partners strengthens families through a two-generation approach to education. With our free classes, community-based workshops, and educational media, low-income parents develop the literacy and language skills they need to succeed in today’s world. Our research-based curriculum also incorporates child development and parenting support to help parents boost their children’s early reading, school readiness, and social-emotional growth. 

The Position: The Director of Institutional Giving will be responsible for planning, managing, and implementing activities that increase, diversify and sustain philanthropic support for Literacy Partners’ programs from foundations, corporations, and government entities. This individual will develop and drive institutional strategy to identify and pursue large-scale grants, as well as work with the program and finance teams to ensure grant compliance and timely preparation of invoices and reports to funders. 

Reporting to the Chief External Affairs Officer, this position is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and will join our diverse, social justice oriented team of 27 staff and more than 100 interns and volunteers.

Responsibilities

    Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive strategy and implementation plan for current, lapsed, and new institutional donors to meet fundraising goals Maintain relationships with institutional funders including producing grant applications, reports, presentations, invitations, and other correspondence associated with cultivating and soliciting funders, as well as leading the planning and execution of site visits, meetings, and events Manage the institutional pipeline, supervising proposal and report preparation and compliance to all grant requirements across the team Work with finance team to ensure timely and accurate preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual invoices to government funding sources, and reconciliations with general ledger Provide expertise to the Chief Program Officer and Program Managers to support the development and management of grant budgets as well as invoices and reporting to ensure compliance. Expand and diversify foundation donor pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for existing and new initiatives. Work with the Chief Program Officer and other team members to build out an up-and-coming corporate giving program to build a robust suite of volunteer and funding opportunities to attract corporate partners. Lead all aspects of the solicitation and management of competitive government grants, including leading collaboration with internal staff and consultants in order to ensure our compliance and meet program goals. Directly supervise the work of two part-time grant writers Use data and insights from donor management system (Salesforce) to drive reporting and decision making across the portfolio and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of progress with funders

Qualifications and Requirements

    At least 5 years of demonstrated experience and success cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts from foundation and corporate funders; proven relationship management skills Deep knowledge of institutional fundraising landscape and trends Ability to represent the organization to prospective and current funders Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Demonstrated critical thinking, planning, and goal-setting skills Proficient in data analysis and using data insights to drive action Confirmed strength in project plan development, management, and execution; an ability to drive sophisticated, multifaceted projects forward to deliver results on time Proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, and in Salesforce preferred Excellent organizational and leadership skills Strong communication and interpersonal abilities Experience in non-profits preferred Great sense of humor
