The Director of Strategic Engagement works in conjunction with the Director of Advancement to oversee critical areas of fundraising, operations and stewardship. This position is newly created and marks a transition from a Campaign-focused role to a broad-based fundraising position with an emphasis on a strategic partnership with the Director of Advancement.

The Director of Strategic Engagement will be responsible for the management of major gifts fundraising, major gifts volunteers, prospect management, and the development of a comprehensive stewardship plan. The Director of Strategic Engagement will also be a critical frontline fundraiser.

Responsibilities:

  • Management/mentorship of three team members
  • Face-to-face solicitations of Major Gifts prospects
  • Oversight of the Major Gifts Committee (volunteers)
  • Collaborative work with fundraising volunteers at the Board of Trustees level
  • Development of a pipeline of rated prospects
  • Oversee relationships with outside consultants/vendors
  • Assist in strategizing and implementing cultivation and recognition events, in conjunction with the Director of Special Events
  • Provide necessary financial updates and analysis to Chapin Trustees and/or volunteers
  • Oversee and support data-driven initiatives that ensure staff members execute strategies resulting in the meaningful engagement and successful solicitation of prospects
  • Oversee the management of key office systems and processes for tracking, analyzing and reporting major gift donors
  • Create and implement a comprehensive stewardship plan
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience identifying, cultivating, stewarding, soliciting and closing six-figure gifts  
  • Major gifts and/or campaign experience preferred
  • A history of relationship-building and creating/fostering lasting relationships with donors and an institution
  • An experienced manager and mentor
  • Ability to demonstrate both individual and collaborative communication with constituents
  • A collaborative colleague dedicated to working as a member of a team
  • A warm, engaging, accessible style
  • High energy, “can do” spirit and a sense of humor
  • Genuine interest in the specific values stated in the Chapin mission
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Fundraising experience in a school setting preferred
