LOCATED IN:  Raleigh, North Carolina

For almost a century, North Carolina Masons have contributed to the endowment and growth of two charities that care for children and senior citizens in need: The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, and WhiteStone: A Masonic and Eastern Star Community in Greensboro. In partnership with the North Carolina Masonic Foundation, 32,000 brothers in 370 lodges from Murphy to Manteo support residents of our homes and contribute to a wide range of funds benefiting outreach programs, scholarships, and lodge restoration. The Foundation provides fundraising and communications support as well as investment services with an overarching goal of making our state, and the world, a better place, consistent with the ideals of Freemasonry. The Officer will build a comprehensive development program with key metrics designed to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and lead a team of three to actualize that plan.  The Officer will be entrusted with the following key responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Foundation’s primary advocate, fundraiser, spokesperson, and administrator.
  • Provide strategic support to assist partners and stakeholders in developing goals, plans and procedures.
  • Provide regular reports to the Foundation board, Grand Lodge, and charities on performance and activity.

Resource Development

  • Build a case for support that articulates vision for the Foundation and inspires investment.
  • Develop and implement a development plan to further engage donors and volunteers.
  • Oversee the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors for the Foundation and involve staff, board, and partners in execution.
  • Manage a personal portfolio of donors resulting in direct solicitation.
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential donors.
  • Lead and promote the ongoing growth of annual, capital, planned, and endowed resources.

Community Outreach and Communications

  • Share stories of impact to motivate Masons, board members, donors, and partners in a way that inspires them to support the Foundation.
  • Build the Foundation’s brand and reputation to increase awareness and engagement.
  • Cultivate and build strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the Masonic community including the Foundation board, the Grand Lodge, and the leadership of collaborating charities.
  • Work with the communications director to develop formal communications plans as part of the comprehensive, annual development plan.
  • Actively engage in the community and serve as the face of the organization.

Team Management

  • Build a high functioning, collaborative development team that plays to the strengths of the team.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork and accountability, developing staff members to their highest potential.
  • Maintain a positive and healthy workplace that attracts, retains, and motivates employees and volunteers.
  • Establish annual working goals for development staff, offer regular consultation and feedback, and conduct annual staff performance evaluations.
