The Learning for Living Institute® is seeking a dedicated Deputy Director who works under the leadership of the Founder/Executive Director to carry out the mission and vision of the organization. Communications, outreach, and development are central areas of responsibility in this position. This job offers challenge and diversity as new tasks come on board and the Institute becomes a more mature organization.

The Learning for Living Institute® is one of the few nationally oriented nonprofits dedicated to creating and facilitating cutting-edge Life Success Skills Programs for college-age young adults. Located in downtown Boulder, The Learning for Living Institute® is composed of a dedicated group of eight staff members and independent contractors.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR INCLUDE:

COMMUNICATION AND OUTREACH

  • Collaborating with the Executive Director to understand the individuals and organizations the Institute seeks to serve and identify potential partners for Learning for Living® among college students and administrators, faculty, parents, and other educational organizations
  • Developing strategies to connect with these groups through personal outreach and events, and through developing the organization’s website, brochures, videos, social media, and other communications
  • Working with independent contractors and consultants to build the public presence of the Institute, empower The Learning for Living® mission, and connect with potential program sponsors and partners

DEVELOPMENT

  • Working with the Executive Director to set priorities that achieve the organization's fundraising goals and target foundation, individual, corporate, and government sources for potential support
  • Creating fundraising messages and materials and designing events – personal meetings, lunches, webinars, etc., to introduce The Learning for Living Institute® to potential supporters and solicit contributions
  • Tracking the progress toward accomplishing Learning for Living® short- and long-term development goals, and reporting monthly to the Executive Director on the success of these strategies and new opportunities

  • Ability to funnel down from the visionary goals to the day-to-day tasks, strategize and identify solutions, organize, coordinate, simplify and operationalize needed objectives

     

  • Follows the procedures previously established at Learning for Living®, yet demonstrates foresight and flexibility when change is needed

     

  • Ability to foresee results, act, evaluate, make improvements, and plan for what is needed next

     

  • Listens to others’ opinions, considers new possibilities, and offers personal recommendations

     

  • Enjoys working effectively with different types of people, gives clear, doable instructions to complete a task, and follows through with support and feedback

EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or above

     

  • 10-15 years’ management and supervisory experience

     

  • Has worked in Life Skills Education

     

  • Familiar with Experiential Curriculum and with coaching and facilitation methodologies

     

  • Proficient with computers, software, most office machines, and cloud storage

APPLICATION PROCESS

Compensation: $30 to $35 an hour and depending on experience and expertise.
