Executive Director and CEO

Organization: Soroptimist International of the Americas
Location: Philadelphia, PA

Type/Industry: Women & Girls

Nomination/Referral Email: soroptimist_ed@koyapartners.com

Soroptimist was formed in 1921 in Oakland, California, at a time when women were not permitted to join service organizations. Their name, loosely translated from Latin, means best for women. Today, they have about 30,000 members and 150,000 online supporters in 20 countries and territories. They are one of five federations that make up Soroptimist International, which has clubs in more than 120 countries throughout the world.

SIA’s Dream Programs, the Live Your Dream Awards® and Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls® are primarily delivered locally by Soroptimist clubs and members. Learn about the importance of education in achieving economic empowerment and the impact of the Dream Programs in SIA’s research paper, Education and Economic Empowerment: The Future for Women and Girls.

As they celebrate 100 years of existence, SIA has begun working on a Big Goal -- to invest in the dreams of half a million women and girls by 2031. A 3-year fundraising initiative will be launched in September 2021 to build capacity at all levels of the organization to achieve the Big Goal.

The organization is seeking an Executive Director and CEO (ED) who will build on SIA’s work in multiple countries helping women and girls, as they look to expand their impact into the future. The ED will serve as the ambassador, chief strategist, external champion, and organizational leader for SIA, and work with the board, staff, and members to pursue SIA’s mission. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will be an experienced nonprofit leader who will be able to advocate successfully and passionately for women and girls and their economic empowerment. The ED will use their knowledge to expand the membership base of Soroptimists, who are volunteers. Experience in women’s development, especially global women and girls, and advocacy sectors are also a plus. The ED should be a proven hands-on leader, strategic and analytic thinker, and problem solver who responds to challenges effectively with sound judgment, empathy, and compassion. The successful candidate will have an understanding of fund development, how membership organizations work, and show strong multi-cultural understanding and leadership.
