UCLA’s Institute of Precision Health (IPH) is revolutionizing the study of genes, alongside information about lifestyle and environment, to help improve health and treat disease. Fueled by innovation, the IPH, along with the UCLA Department of Human Genetics (Department), is empowering healthier lives. Philanthropy enables IPH to bring leading doctors and scientists in their fields together to create the cures of tomorrow — including big data integration, clinical diagnostics, and patient bio-banking. As the Director of Development, you will be instrumental in establishing long-range fundraising strategies to attract private support for the IPH and Department.

In collaboration with the Executive Director of Development, Health Sciences and academic leadership in the IPH/Department, you will develop sophisticated strategies for successful identification, cultivation and solicitation of annual and major gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations, and evaluate progress through annual operating plans. You will personally cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors and prospects, and meet with faculty to gain knowledge of their research interests and expertise to clearly and succinctly translate research to potential donors and represent the IPH/Department to the broader community.

As an ideal candidate for this role, you will have a minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible development experience with an emphasis on health sciences, grateful patient and major gift fundraising and/or professional experience in a related field working with solicitations of a similar scope, nature and complexity.  You will be familiar working in a highly matrixed organization with a successful track record of building a culture of philanthropy and strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. You will have the ability to engage donors, volunteers, academic leaders, faculty and staff in the accomplishment of fundraising goals and a strong documented record of gifts solicited and closed in the annual and major gifts range and/or solicitations of a similar scope, nature and complexity. You will be experienced in understanding and translating diverse academic research topics and their relevance to potential donors.  Successful candidates in consideration for this role will be excellent communicators, have exceptional interpersonal skills and thrive in a dynamic and ever-changing environment as you work toward accomplishing the priorities of the IPH and Department.
