Vice President of Institutional Advancement
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
The Vice President of Institutional Advancement is a member of the Louisiana Endowment for Humanities leadership team, responsible for all fundraising, development and advancement activities, including advancement communications. The VP of Institutional Advancement will be an energetic and dynamic professional to lead and inspire staff, partners, board members, and constituents. The Vice President will be technologically savvy and able to establish a robust marketing strategy. The Vice President will identify, expand and build relationships and partnerships with potential donor constituencies, including board members, friends, corporations and foundations. The Vice President will be responsible for developing a comprehensive plan to establish, implement and sustain infrastructure needed to grow development results. The Vice President, Institutional Advancement will maintain his/her own portfolio of major donor and potential donor relationships. The Vice President will aptly intertwine LEH’s multiple programs with fundraising initiatives.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year university is required.
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Minimum five years of demonstrated senior-level fundraising experience is required.
- Experienced in all fundraising techniques, including major donor solicitation, corporate and foundation grant-seeking, grant writing, board relations, government grant development, special events, annual funding and online campaigns.
- Proven ability to build upon a branding strategy that supports all fundraising and program efforts.
- Familiarity with financial planning.
- Experienced marketing success in social media using data technology, preferred.
- Prior nonprofit experience is preferred.
- Ability to build, guide and lead all areas of Institutional Advancement.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Superior analytic skills to formulate information into a sound, well-organized plan.
- A proven track record in grants management, especially federal grants.
- Ability to develop strategies to achieve organizational goals.
- A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of the LEH.
Preferred Skills and Competencies:

- Sales and Marketing knowledge of principles and methods for showing promoting and selling products and services. Including building marketing strategies and tactics.

- Commitment to training programs that maximize individual and organizational goals across the organization including best practices in fundraising and campaigns.
- Knowledge of media productions, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
- Flexibility to adjust quickly and effectively to changing conditions and demands.
- Creates and adheres to realistic budgets in a manner that helps achieve the organization's objectives.
- Delegation of work assignments that match the responsibility to the person.
- LEH is a statewide organization, travel is required.
Private Sector Fundraising:
- Develop a visionary strategic plan for fund development and expand and diversify prospects.
- Manage and cultivate a portfolio of high-capacity donors. Ensure proper identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects and donors.
- Establish and meet financial objectives and policies for the LEH that supports the strategic objectives of the organization.
- Analyze and report on overall fundraising results versus goals to internal and external constituencies.
- Create an acknowledgement of fundraising contributions, record fundraising data, and helping to evaluate progress toward goals.
- Continue to drive the John T. Scott art exhibition campaign to redesign the 1st floor at Turners’ Hall into a premier art gallery.
- Overall campaign management and organization including pipelines, prospect tracking, strategy, task assignment and maintenance of timelines.
- Prepare regular campaign reports to share with staff, leadership, and board members.
- Oversee all campaign communications, including creating and producing presentations and campaign materials with internal and external resources, and creating acknowledgement of all campaign gifts and pledges, recording campaign data, and helping to evaluate progress toward goals
- Research and facilitate new grant opportunities and relationships.
- Create, maintain, and submit grant proposals in a timely manner. Create timeline for all grant submissions and review processes.
- Interpret pre-award and post-award LEH and sponsored guidelines to staff and identify and resolve compliance issues related to grant requirements.
- Analyze data and report cost benefits to grantor, staff, board of trustees, and constituents in collaboration with the VP of Finance and Administration.
- Design, manage and implement the activities for the LEH’s major gifts and planned giving program.
- Cultivate and solicit prospects for major and planned gifts from appropriate donors, corporations and potential donors to support planned giving and endowment goals in collaboration with the President.
- Provide stewardship of donors who have already announced a commitment to planned giving.
- Create and analyze programs reports to share with division leaders and board of trustees.
- Direct or participate in negotiations that maintain compliance with LEH policies, procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements.
- Ability to educate fellow staff and prospects/donors of planned giving and its complexities: estate planning, tax laws, wills, trusts, etc.
Marketing and Sales:
- Thoroughly understand LEH’s history and culture, including its governance structure, leadership team, staff and board members.
- Create a sustainable branding campaign that enhances LEH’s image and identity and train all staff and board of trustees.
- Generate strategic results driven marketing campaigns including: use of traditional marketing, digital marketing, email marketing, social media marketing, partnerships, and digital analytics.
- Design and implement a customized state-based, proactive marketing plan in collaboration with the President.
- Design and lead strategic initiatives and goals through cross-departmental collaboration to enhance overall performance in accordance with LEH’s mission.
- Represent and advocate LEH to external constituencies, including prospects, donors, board of trustees, community partners, volunteers, and other key stakeholders.
- Record and analyze data collected to improve marketing strategies.
- Create and distribute communication pieces for staff, donors, and prospects, including electronic newsletters, mailings, magazine articles, and campaign updates.
- Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external clients. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that client confidentiality is assured.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service and work processes,
- Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the organization.
