YWCA of Greater Portland is searching for their next CEO.

The YWCA of Greater Portland is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.  We are committed to anti-racist, anti-sexist, and trauma informed practices. The YWCA seeks to transform lives through safety, healing, and empowerment while also working upstream to make our community a more equitable place. 

 

Founded in 1901, the YWCA of Greater Portland has continually adapted to meet the changing needs of women, children and those marginalized and underserved in our community. Over the past six years, the YWCA has successfully grown and diversified its programming, increased the number of people served to approximately 10,000 and doubled its budget to over $3 million.  Today the YWCA operates 5 main programs:

  • Family Preservation Project
  • Domestic Violence Services
  • Senior Services Program
  • Social Justice Program
  • Fiscal Sponsorship Program

In preparation for this search, the board and staff discussed the strengths an ideal executive will bring to the YWCA. 

 

Strengths of an ideal candidate:

 

  • Have a commitment to leadership that prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Have non-profit management experience in a mission aligned organization that embodies the YWCA advocacy for feminism, anti-racism and dignity for all.
  • Bring a strong equity analysis lens to executive leadership, organizational development,

program development and external partnerships.

  • Be a visionary, passionate and strategic thinker with experience in building and

sustaining work environments that embrace diversity and authenticity and model the values of the communities served.

  • Understand the complexity of a $4 million financial infrastructure.
  • Demonstrate strong emotional intelligence and an ability to communicate and listen non-judgmentally.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to build and strengthen a work team and develop staff

capabilities and morale through leadership, coaching and mentoring.

  • Bring an equitable, collaborative and strategic approach to conflict, problem solving and

decision making.
