Responsibilities

The Development Officer (DO) is an integral part of the development team for The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art (The Ringling).  The DO reports to the Senior Director of Development and serves as a front-line fundraiser cultivating and soliciting gifts of $25,000 and above and manages the Circle Program. The DO is often the initial contact person for higher level donors and prospects to The Ringling, through the Circle Program. In addition to assisting the Development Team in achieving personal and departmental goals, this individual will manage the Circle and its strategic direction, while collaboratively leading stewardship initiatives including acknowledging, reporting and recognizing donors.

Circle Program Memberships

Manages The Ringling’s Circle program as a leadership annual giving initiative. Identifies and cultivates potential Circle Level donors. Secures annual gifts in the $2,500 - $10,000 range for Circle Level membership. Meets an established annual monetary and participation goal for Circle Level membership program to be determined in consult with the Senior Director of Development each fiscal year. Creates, schedules and coordinates all programming for Circle Level members working with the Executive Director, Curators and Senior Staff featuring an array of programs representing the breadth of experiences offered at The Ringling. Facilitates Circle materials, mailings, events, program talking points and press/publications. Manages group travel opportunities for Circle and Board members. Protects confidential information. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Gift Officer

As a front-line fundraiser, manages a portfolio of Circle members and individuals: donors who give, or have the potential to give over and above their Circle level membership to support the capital, programmatic and endowment needs of The Ringling.

Develops and implements an overall stewardship plan for individual donors to The Ringling. This includes, but is not limited to, coordination of donor recognition activities, donor honor roll listings in The Ringling Annual Report, The Ringling Donor Wall, and creates donor profiles for publications such as The Ringling Magazine. Manages gift acknowledgements and gift reports for the Executive Director and Development Team. Supports the Development Team in the coordination of donor and member related events, including scheduling and other related activities (tours, lunches, receptions).

Board Concierge Services

Assists in the management of The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art Foundation Board members with respect to their event registrations and tickets as well as accommodating their guests. Works with members of the Board in welcoming and mentoring new Circle members as well as the process of recruitment and retention.   

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to eight years. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)

Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office products suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), or equivalent software.

Must be a self-starter, comfortable working independently while working well in a team-oriented environment, taking the initiative to be productive and efficient.

Must be a creative thinker and recognize the impact of meaningful stewardship.

Ability to maintain consistent and constructive communication with the Foundation.

Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously and accurately in a detail-oriented environment.

Ability and willingness to travel regionally and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage competing deadlines.  

Ability to handle confidential, sensitive information with the highest degree of professionalism.

A valid State of Florida Driver's License or the ability to obtain.

Preferred

A passion for the arts.

Advanced degree preferred.

General knowledge of the Sarasota philanthropic community.

Professional experience in major gift development in a university setting; Experience in a related field with basic knowledge of personal solicitation methods may also be considered.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
