The Center for Economic Inclusion is the nation's first organization dedicated exclusively to advancing inclusive

growth to achieve regional shared prosperity. The Center was created in 2017 to strengthen the Minneapolis-St.

Paul region’s leadership, civic infrastructure, and collective capacity to disrupt systems and influence market

forces to catalyze shared prosperity and an inclusive economy. Our work has grown to meet the needs of

businesses and agencies across the country committed to closing racial employment, income, and wealth gaps

by dismantling institutional racism, and fueling inclusive and equitable regional economic growth. We are

Position: Chief of Staff

Reports to: Founder & Chief Executive Officer

POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief of Staff will become the trusted advisor and thought partner for the Founder and CEO. This leader will be responsible for fully embracing the Center’s integrated leadership culture, and values of shared leadership, shared power, and shared accountability to make time, information, and decision processes more effective for the CEO and thereby, the organization. The Chief of Staff is an experienced leader, knowledge, and relationship manager and highly skilled at discerning information to accelerate decision making up, down and across the organization.

The Chief of Staff will have close working relationships with the four Vice Presidents who lead Finance & Operations, Impact & Accountability, External Affairs, and Systems Innovation, growing to carry the CEO’s voice in the organization, partnering to bring cohesion, congruency, and consistent application of the organizations vision, standards, strategy, and tools throughout the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Goalkeeper

• Strategic collaboration with the CEO: Brainstorming, design and facilitated execution of new

initiatives

• Provide status updates, briefings and reports to the CEO and senior leadership team; Maintain

an environment that cultivates free flowing information for active decision making

• Proactively identify and mitigate challenge and barriers

• Develop, manage, and guide senior leaders in managing enterprise-wide dashboards, scorecards,

and performance management systems to ensure constant pulse on key performance indicators

• Manage and triage workflow of the Founder and CEO

• Develop and manage scorecard, dashboard, and performance management system

Operator

• Conduct research to aid in analysis and decision making for the CEO

• Optimize day-to-day senior leadership team operations, decision making and information flow

• Partner with the Executive Assistant to the CEO to prioritize demands on the CEO’s calendar

and delegate requests to other members of the leadership team

Implementer

• Create, review, or edit key deliverables on behalf of the CEO including scopes of work, reports,

presentations, and contracts

• Monitor the CEOs priorities internally and with external stakeholders

• Ensure accountability between teams, committees, and enterprises

• Drive business priorities from start to finish

• Execute special projects or initiatives on behalf of the CEO or the Center

Integrator

 

• Partner with the CEO and senior leadership team to establish annual actionable work plans and to support the implementation of the plans with alignment to the Center’s strategic priorities, values, and operational protocols

• Facilitate Traction L10 meetings; create measurable and metrics and provide guidance for

operationalizing Traction and performance management systems

• Communicate performance results in ways that inspire high performance and high engagement

• Facilitate the creation of effective inter-department dependencies and collaboration for improved

performance management, alignment, and engagement Proxy

• As assigned, act on behalf of the CEO for accelerated decision-making impact, and results.

• Prevent bottle necking and promote decision making when the CEO is not available or has delegated authority and decision making.

• Drafts internal and external correspondence on behalf of the CEO

• Collaborate with the CEO’s executive assistant to ensure a highly productive, efficient and results oriented environment

Advisor

• Serve as a strategic thought partner, sounding board and confidante to the CEO

• Remain educated and reliable to offer relevant insight on organizational strategy and decision making

• Advise senior leaders on best practices for data informed decision making

Organizational Culture, Management and Coordination

• Partner with the Director of Organizational Effectiveness to cultivate a culture that embodies the

values of the Center in meaningful and measurable ways

• Demonstrate a commitment to racial equity, inclusion and belonging

• Partner with Vice Presidents to align and develop annual department budgets, work plans and

strategies, and interim reports

• Lead and collaborate with team members and consultants and foster an environment that aligns

with the Center’s values and performance imperatives

• Contribute to the creation and stewardship of organizational culture and ethos, both internally and externally. Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality

• Develop and submit timely, substantive internal and external reports, including financial, operating and program reporting

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the mission of the Center for Economic

Inclusion

• Advanced experience institutionalizing racial equity in workforce development, economic

development, transportation, housing, or a related field

• Proven results as an operational leader, integrator, or similar role

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in demonstrated progressive experience in the nonprofit, public or corporate sector

• Highly skilled trust builder

• Adept at moving seamlessly from the strategic to the tactical and guiding others to do so as well

• Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills. Uses data in assessing, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information. Substantial statistical skills and a demonstrated understanding of how statistical data are used in policy advocacy

• Exceptional writing, public speaking, and presentation skills, including experience presenting

complex subject matter to non-expert audiences and high-level decision makers in a strengths-based and positive manner.

• EOS / Traction experience valued

• Excellent project management skills; Keen attention to detail

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $155,000-$175,000 and is complemented

by a full suite of benefits including health, dental, vision, life, STD, and LTD insurance; mobile

phone, wellness, and transportation benefits; paid time off and retirement savings match. A

salary commensurate with experience will be offered to complement these to the successful

candidate’s experience.
