Join a dynamic team of development professionals working to advance the mission of the University of New Mexico. The UNM Foundation seeks nominations and applications for the position of Senior Director of Development for the UNM Project ECHO.

Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is a telementoring model that integrates case-based learning, a focus on best practices, an all-teach, all learn philosophy, and on-going monitoring of results to ensure that professionals in healthcare and increasingly other fields like education have the mentorship support they need to do their jobs well, even as information and best practices expand exponentially.

The successful applicant will be responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive development program in coordination with the leadership of the Project ECHO, the UNM Foundation staff, and colleagues. The successful applicant will work closely with the Senior Leadership of Project ECHO, VP of Development at UNM Foundation, staff, volunteer advisory board and friends to identify prospects, develop strategies leading to solicitation, and steward major donors.

The primary focus of the position is to identify, cultivate, and solicit major and planned gifts benefiting Project ECHO.  Additionally, the candidate will provide donor stewardship in an effort to increase engagement with Project ECHO.

About Project ECHO

The University of New Mexico's Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is committed to exponentially increasing capacity to treat chronic common and complex diseases safely and effectively in rural and underserved areas. Project ECHO is funded in part by grants from the GE Foundation and the Helmsley Charitable Trust and has received support from the NM Legislature, the University of New Mexico, and the New Mexico Department of Health. Project ECHO's vision is to touch the lives of 1 billion people by 2025. We are looking for mission-driven high performers to join our team and achieve this goal.

Founded in 2003, Project ECHO has grown over the past 18 years to include a robust portfolio of training programs that support the state of New Mexico, and a unique and highly dynamic network of partnerships across the United States and globally (545 partners including many academic medical centers in the United States and Ministries of Health Globally).  The ECHO model been recognized as one of the leading innovations in both healthcare (RWJF award) and education (brock Prize 2020) fields.  Recognizing the ECHO model’s utility, in April 2020 Project ECHO was recipient of a $15 million grant to support COVID-19 response in less developed countries by the Audacious group. In July of 2020, Project ECHO was selected as one of six finalists for the MacArthur 100&Change award.

Given the growing demand for our work, we are actively seeking to strengthen our fundraising systems.  This moment in our evolution offers a perfect opportunity for a collaborative innovator to join our team and help lead the development of our systems into the next phase of our evolution.

Project ECHO currently has a robust and creative grant writing team as well as a high-level staff member focused on corporate and foundation relations.  One Development Officer who reports into the foundation currently supports Project ECHO as well as one support staff dedicated to back-end support.  We have a growing communications department focused on branding and supporting fundraising efforts and a research and evaluation group building on our 330+ peer publications and growing evidence of impact.
