We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Development Communications Specialist.

In this role, the successful candidate is a key member of the Development Communications team, and is chiefly responsible for creating timely, accurate, and compelling correspondence to steward donors and especially custom gift acknowledgment letters for NYU Langone’s Dean and CEO and the Executive Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs. They spearhead the acknowledgements process with oversight. They also provide writing and editing support in other areas, including broadcast communications, event communications, and more.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Spearheads the acknowledgements letter process, writes and edits personalized letters for the Dean and CEO of NYU Langone and the Executive Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs, and oversees the work flow for all custom letters
    Working with administrative support, ensures that letters are processed/mailed in a timely fashion, archived in the database, and carefully tracked
  • Troubleshoots issues and solves problems related to acknowledgements letters or the acknowledgment process
    Drives innovation and improvement around the donor acknowledgment experience
    Offers guidance to the office at large on best practices in correspondence with donors.
  • Crafts and edits additional donor communications as needed
    Knows, disseminates, and helps to enforce institutional and departmental brand guidelines, balancing them with fundraising needs and objectives
    Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • To qualify you must have a Bachelor’s Degree in English or a related field required
  • 4-6+ years of relevant experience required
  • Superior writing skill and a mastery of grammar
  • Sharp attention to detail and accuracy coupled with keen intuition about people and what moves them
  • Tenacity and problem-solving skills
  • Able in all projects large and small to: understand audience, determine specific communications objectives, and set and achieve communications goals
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • High degree of computer literacy required, specifically knowledge of MS Office package, including Outlook, Word, PPT, and Excel
