Position Description: The West Regional Director for the Society of Fellows (SOF) program works in conjunction with the Executive Director to assure the exceptional performance of the donor program in the western region of the United States, with a particular emphasis on membership growth, as well as member engagement, stewardship, and cultivation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • SOF Membership Growth: Creative and energetic recruitment of new members into the Society of Fellows. This includes developing new relationships and networks among people in the western region of the United States who are likely to have an interest in, and affinity for, the work of the Aspen Institute.
  • SOF Member Stewardship & Cultivation: Responsibilities include: stewarding SOF members and cultivating renewals and upgrades through emails, phone calls, letters and meetings; maintaining regular contact with current members and actively expanding the Aspen Institute's network in the western region of the United States; researching and developing strategies for building relationships and securing support for other Institute programs.
  • Underwriter & Partnership Development: Solicit and secure underwriting and other partnerships to support SOF events, programs, and other activities in the western region of the United States. Manage underwriter and other partner relationships. Serves as the primary liaison with assigned area Trustees, including staffing any ad hoc committee meetings, and supporting cultivation efforts and introductions.
  • Budget management: Maintain and adhere to a budget for relationship management in the western region of the United States.
  • Special Projects: Work with SOF staff to execute other events and special projects, and provide support for overall development projects.

Principal Interactions:

Interacts routinely with members of the Advancement and Communications teams; SOF donors; Aspen Institute policy program directors; Aspen Institute trustees; national experts in a variety of subjects; Aspen Institute employees at large; and other Aspen Institute stakeholders.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Highly motivated, creative professional who can work comfortably in a high-paced very detailed oriented team environment.
  • 7-10 years professional experience in development, membership or related field.
  • 7-10 years program management and/or project leadership experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with high level people.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills, with an emphasis on time-management and the ability to organize and implement various activities within a deadline-pressured environment.
  • Excellent writing and computer skills, including high level proofreading
  • Preferred Proficiencies:
    • Fundraising software (Raiser's Edge, Blackbaud Luminate or Salesforce).
    • Project Management Software (Basecamp)
    • Content/Talent Management Software (Art's Vision)

Level of Authority:

  • Non-supervisory position

Note:

  • Accountable for achieving set revenue goals.
  • Budget management & accounting responsibility
  • Travel required.
  • Evening and weekend work required.
