JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Director of Development manages the Development Department and is responsible for all fundraising goals and the cultivation of new and on-going individual and corporate donors, events, public relations and marketing and media relations as they relate to Hope Center, Inc. and One Parent Scholar House.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  1. Interfaces with Executive Director to coordinate annual fundraising goals for Hope Center and One Parent Scholar House (OPSH).
  2. Oversees and is accountable for all fundraising activities including major gifts and individual and corporate solicitations for Hope Center and One Parent Scholar House.
  3. Responsible for the design and maintenance of donor relations programs and planned giving programs.
  4. Works with the Executive Director to promote board development, board fundraising and facilitate accurate communication.
  5. Researches, identifies and cultivates external community philanthropy with corporate, community and civic organizations.
  6. Participates in appropriate community based organizations to assist in raising the awareness of the Hope Center and OPSH in those communities.
  7. Responsible for critical thinking regarding donations and trends in donor behavior.
  8. Maintains communication with donors by phone calls, email, mail and personal visits
  9. Organizes and administers designated special events and fundraisers, including PSA Campaign, Night of Hope, Education Builds Hope, and oversees all events.
  10. Communicates and manages public and media relations for the Hope Center and OPSH.
  11. Works with Development Manager and Coordinator to develop and write copy for Hope Center and OPSH publications, including quarterly newsletter, annual report and year-end appeal.
  12. Maintains contacts with strategic partners in the community.
  13. Prepares media advisories and press releases and responds to media inquiries.
  14. Performs public speaking engagements and tours as needed.
  15. Serves as the liaison with the Donor Relations Committee.
  16. Develops monthly Development reports for the management team.
  17. Attends Management meetings.

Supervisory Responsibility

The position directly supervises the Development Manager and the Volunteer & Community Relations Manager.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in all organization locations/buildings.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to type, file or lift supplies up to 10 pounds. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee must also be able to drive to building locations each day.

Travel

Local travel is required.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications or other related field.
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Experience and skill in working with fundraising and event planning.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  1. Current driver’s license with acceptable driving record
