The Tahirih Justice Center is a national, nonprofit organization that serves women, girls, and other immigrant survivors fleeing gender-based violence. Our interdisciplinary, trauma-informed model of service combines free legal services and social services case management with bridge-building policy advocacy and research-based training and education. Our programs efficiently and effectively leverage donated professional services from a vast network of attorneys, medical professionals, and other experts to serve as many immigrant survivors as possible. Tahirih is seeking a dynamic, outgoing, and innovative Development Officer for our San Bruno, CA office who will by partner with the Executive Director to secure at least $2M in revenue from individuals, foundation, and government sources.  This role requires a solution-oriented and savvy professional that is skilled at building and maintaining relationships and leveraging both internal and external resources to achieve aggressive goals in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will thrive in a high-energy, fast paced, collaborative environment and be skilled at communicating with diverse stakeholders. 

 

Assistance with relocation will be provided for a successful candidate who would relocate to SF Bay Area. 

 

Key Areas of Responsibility

As our Development Officer you will design, develop and implement a fundraising program with a focus on building a major gifts program to include managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects. You must have an ability to center our clients, connect with donors and clearly communicate our organization’s mission. You will be expected to collaborate with local and national team members, persuade prospects and persevere to the end. Additionally, you will: 

  • Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization
  • Secure 5- and 6-figure major gifts with the goal of raising $250,000 annually
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools
  • Work with the development departments across the organization to align efforts and set goals
  • Create and implement moves management plans
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the Executive Director, local Advisory Committee and other staff with their solicitation (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications)
  • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition
  • Conduct regular analysis and report on revenue goals versus projections in coordination with the Executive Director, Chief Development Officer, and Finance Team ; and
  • Collaborate with the team across the organization to write and submit proposals, letters of intent, case statements, and acknowledgement letters;
  • Attend networking and fundraising events to support Tahirih’s San Francisco Bay Area operations; 
  • Serve as the hands-on project manager and point person for the annual fundraising gala and growing the event to $300-500k within 1-2 years, by recruiting corporate sponsorships and overseeing an engaging and smoothly executed event experience. 
Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a proven, detail-oriented, self-starter with a passion for social justice. The successful candidate will possess excellent written communications skills and be an engaging speaker that can effectively and independently communicate/network with diverse audiences

  •  A minimum of seven (7) years of nonprofit  fundraising experience and have shown an ability to secure individual and major gifts and meet objectives. 
  • At least three (3) years independently managing significant events demonstrating project and/or event management experience;
  • Successful track record in developing and implementing creative fundraising strategies;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Meticulous attention to detail;
  • Social media savvy;
  • Flexibility to manage work schedule to accommodate Tahirih’s business needs outside of standard 9-5 office hours

Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this role is expected to be $80,000-$90,000 per year, with actual salary commensurate with experience. Generous benefits include employee and dependent health, vision and dental insurance (Tahirih pays 100% of the premium for employees and 60% for dependents); a 401(k) defined contribution retirement plan; flexible work schedules; professional development including in-house training programs, staff enrichment retreats and other growth opportunities. Assistance with relocation will be provided for a successful candidate who would relocate to SF Bay Area.
