Overview: The National Conference of Black Political Scientists (NCOBPS) is seeking a highly competent nonprofit fundraising professional to assist us in launching a donor and major donor campaign between October 2021 and October 2022. This campaign is led by a Development Committee, in which Dr. Elsie Scott (Howard University) and Dr. Todd Shaw (University of South Carolina) are its co-chairs. We envision a 3-year campaign in which we seek to raise $500,000.

Campaign Manager Responsibilities: We will select a campaign manager to assist the NCOBPS Development Committee and will carry out the following responsibilities over the 12-month period of October 2021 to October 2022:

1) lead us in meeting the first-year goals of our Campaign Blueprint by cultivating and corresponding with prospective donors and advising the Development Committee on various campaign strategies and logistics

2) work with the Committee to develop our marketing campaign to donors and prospective donors (using a range of methods from printed materials to social media)

3) train us in how to solicit and to make appropriate and effective asks to individual donors and institutions

4) work with the Committee to coordinate an effective program for recognition, involvement and stewardship of major gift donors in coordination with other NCOBPS leaders

5) assist and to advise the Committee on how to manage our dataset and how to keep track of the status of donors and their willingness to give

6) assist the Committee in educating NCOBPS members and supporters about gifts and giving

7) assume other responsibilities that will assist the Committee in managing the 12-month, launch year of this campaign

8) help devise a strategy for sustaining the three-year campaign.

Qualifications & Requirements: Eligible candidates will have:

1) at least a bachelor’s degree and five (5) or more years of development, fundraising or sales experience with three or more years of management experience

2) excellent oral, written, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills

3) demonstrated leadership ability and experience in working with Black/African American or people of color-led national organizations like NCOBPS, thus understanding the patterns of giving within the donor bases of such organizations

4) ability to articulate the case for support so that individuals “buy into” the vision, mission, and goals of NCOBPS and have sufficient effectiveness to secure gifts and pledges of $25,000 or more

5) working knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets and estates

6) capacity to work efficiency and economically within a remote environment and thus direct access to the tools and technologies needed to work remotely

7) at least three (3) credible references.

Deadline: Please respond by emailing a letter of interest and resume by August 25, 2021, to shawtc@mailbox.sc.edu.
