The Direct Mail & Mid-Level Senior Manager manages all of the direct mail initiatives and activities, including strategic planning, creative planning, testing strategy, and reporting/analytics working closely with our direct mail partner agency. The role oversees the Direct Mail Production Coordinator who implements the campaigns.    

Additionally, this role is part of the Marketing Leadership Team at Greenpeace US. They will lead in the strategy, reporting and integration of the mid-level giving program focused primarily through direct mail and digital channels.

In collaboration with the Development Director, Marketing, the Direct Mail & Mid-Level Senior Manager will develop annual fundraising goals and supporting budgets, long-term growth plans, and track progress through monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the organization, as well as senior leadership.

The Direct Mail & Mid-Level Senior Manager will:

  • Lead the strategic management of all direct marketing programs including Acquisition, Reinstatement, Renewal, Appeal, Member Magazine, and Acknowledgements
  • Lead on direct mail revenue projections, budget creation and reporting through annual and multi-year budgets and growth plans for direct mail and mid-level program
  • Develop and implement multichannel fundraising campaigns for Mid-Level giving program. Identify points of collaboration with Monthly Giving and Annual Giving. Develop strong relationships with internal teams in Development and Programs and external vendors to drive collaboration across marketing programs.
  • Be responsible for managing caging facility processes and reporting
  • Reinforce and invigorate a One-Greenpeace approach to supporter engagement, working closely with colleagues across the organization to ensure a supporter-first strategic approach - compromising and looking for solutions to meet all the supporter goals of the organization (brand, advocacy and fundraising)
  • Contribute to the reporting/measurement/analysis of programs and initiatives to develop facts and tools that assist with future strategizing, planning, and decision-making. Establish a learning agenda for direct mail programs, including the development of testing within the direct marketing programs. Manage direct marketing budget review, financial forecasting, and development of the annual plan and budget
  • Collaborate and actively participate with the Marketing Leadership Team in developing overall fundraising strategies for key audiences (Monthly Giving, Single-Gift, Lead Generation and Mid-Level Giving), mitigating challenges, taking on larger Marketing projects (such as Market Research, Supporter Journeys, etc.) and ensure supporter journey cohesion in a supporter-first mind-set
  • Lead with colleagues and partner agencies to continue to develop and grow Greenpeace USA’s mid-level program (Partners In Action). Build strategies, budgets and projections to aid in the growth of this audience
  • Solicit and evaluate RFPs/quotes from vendors, award vendor contracts as well as one-off production jobs (brochures, postcards, annual report). Work with the Director, Marketing to evaluate partner agencies and make recommendations on which agencies to continue working with and which agencies to test.
  • Effectively manage Direct Marketing Production Coordinator to ensure optimal performance and results.  Identify and enable professional development, training and career coaching.

  • Foster a collaborative environment of growth and learning by setting high standards for creative quality and overall performance.

  • Perform other job related duties as requested

Minimum Requirements of the Direct Mail & Mid-Level Senior Manager include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 6 years working with direct mail
  • Experience with Mid-Level donor programs
  • Experience in creating budget and revenue projections
  • Understanding direct mail production
  • Ability to lead, consult on or manage complex projects/campaigns from creation to completion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and strong team-building skills.
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of accounting and financial reporting, and experience with database management

Additional qualifications for the Direct Mail & Mid-Level Senior Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Background in direct marketing and sustainer analytics.
  • A proven track record of increasing revenue in direct mail and mid-level programs
  • An innovator who loves to create but does not need to own
  • A proven track record in managing partner agencies
  • Experience with acquisition list selection, enhancements and segmentation.
  • Strong background in statistical analysis of a large direct mail program and database management
  • Commitment to and a passion for the principles of Greenpeace, protecting the environment and management through the lens of DEI
