Georgetown Day School seeks an experienced Director of Annual Giving to start immediately. The Director will oversee the overall strategy and implementation of The Annual Giving Program of the School, including  alumni giving, that meets ambitious quantitative objectives each year. Responsibilities include peer-to-peer and multi-channel solicitation and stewardship management, volunteer recruitment and management, and personal solicitation of annual gifts.

Position Summary 

 Well-versed in industry best practices, the Director will demonstrate extensive experience in creative annual giving programs, with direct experience in designing and implementing multi-channel marketing strategies. The Director will have experience in direct mail and email marketing campaigns, and will be collaborative, innovative and data-driven.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement solicitation efforts, including direct mail, email and peer to peer solicitations, to generate revenue of at least $2.5M annually and achieve the school’s goals for donor retention and acquisition;
  • Progressively increase annual giving revenue by developing targeted strategies for all constituencies: parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, faculty/staff and former faculty and staff;
  • In partnership with colleagues on the Advancement  Team, orchestrate an effective marriage of modern marketing “art” skill sets (copywriting, design, branding) with marketing “science” skill sets (segmentation, data analytics);
  • Plan and execute annual alumni giving programs, with a focus on increasing broad participation from alumni at all giving levels, including Reunion and affinity based giving;
  • Develop a roadmap for increasing revenue and donor acquisition over time, while also implementing the short-term strategies that address immediate strengths and weaknesses of the program;
  • Recruit and manage a diverse team of volunteers, including:
    • Train volunteers;
    • Communicate efficiently and effectively with volunteers on a regular basis;
    • Manage prospecting process and solicitor assignments for staff and volunteer solicitors;  and
    • Create solicitor updates to facilitate peer to peer solicitations and track accountability.
  • Strengthen major gift pipeline by increasing the number of annual donors giving at or above the leadership level of $2,500+ per year; and
  • Create comprehensive stewardship strategies for donors and volunteers.

 The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Expertise in annual giving principles, strategies and tactics and expertise in digital and direct marketing;
  • Expertise in alumni giving strategies and implementation;  
  • Outstanding strategic communication, writing, and editing skills
  • Ability to lead meetings and presentations with volunteers and high level donors
  • Outstanding analytical skills and keen understanding and interpretation of data;
  • Familiarity with fundraising software, preferably Raiser’s Edge;  
  • Ability to maintain composure when dealing with difficult situations, and meet deadlines;
  • Creativity in developing innovative annual and alumni giving strategies 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with trustees, school leadership, faculty/staff, parents, alumni, and students;
  • Commitment to collegiality, teamwork, and ethical fundraising practices;
  • Network with colleagues across the industry to stay abreast of best practices;
  • Complete discretion with highly confidential information; and 
  • Availability to periodically work outside of the normal schedule for early morning meetings, evening engagements, and occasional weekend obligations.
