This exciting new role will create a global initiative to accelerate a just transition away from fossil fuel gas, by growing the pool of philanthropic funds for civil society action and collaboratively developing a strategy for an effective global gas campaign.
About the role
In this role, you will have the responsibility and opportunity to work on:
- Create system change: Lead the development of a new initiative to accelerate the rapid global phase out of fossil gas
- Campaign strategy: Co-create, develop, maintain and project manage an overarching strategy for an effective global gas campaign, with the support of consultants and in close collaboration with active stakeholders, global philanthropies and civil society organisations;
- Coalition structure: Develop a strategy and a proposed architecture to support coordination, strategy, and effective delivery of work to confront the challenge of fossil gas;
- Community of practice: Nurture and support the community of funders, strategists, and practitioners; to co-create and run global campaigns, bringing together existing strategies and identifying gaps, driving towards high ambition approaches and growing the level of regional, thematic and global activities
- Connect relationships: Build and maintain deep relationships with key partners and civil society actors, and maintain a view to play a connecting role across funding, strategies, and implementation;
- Identify investments: Identify and support delivery of resources to near-term opportunities to address urgent gaps & priorities on gas, while driving philanthropy towards higher ambition. Develop a list of near term, no regrets investments to accelerate efforts to shift away from gas, including urgent movement gaps that require attention immediately.
About you
The ideal candidate for this role will use relationship management and coalition-building skills, project management skills, and their international perspective on climate and energy to create a new programme that will will accelerate the global fight against gas, while growing the pool of philanthropic resources for gas-related work, and that will ensure those resources are used as effectively as possible.
Qualified candidates must have the following skills and experience:
- At least 7 years of experience working on climate, energy transition, or philanthropy
- Strong familiarity with climate and energy issues
- Demonstrated track record of effective project management
- Strong relationship-building skills; able to move comfortably among funders as well as advocates/activists, with demonstrated ability to cultivate trust in key relationships
- Experience working in coalition-building or multi stakeholder coordination
- International perspective and global experience
Preferred, but not required:
- Deep experience working in and / or with organisations or movements in the Global South
- Strong existing relationships and networks among philanthropy and civil society working on climate, energy, and fossil fuels
- Deep knowledge of energy systems, climate change, fossil fuels, and gas in particular
- Track record of successful strategy development
- Experience managing people and / or teams
- Proficient written communicator

Location
Location is flexible for the right candidate. Given the global scope of the role, the successful candidate must be willing to work flexible hours depending on location.
Term, salary, and benefits
We aim to create a flexible remote working environment. We offer a full-time position but the total hours per week could be 0.8 FTE or similar for the right candidate. Working times are flexible and may include some out of hours meetings across international time zones. Initial one-year contract with potential for renewal.
Competitive salary, adjusted for experience and local job market of the successful candidate. For example, in the US, salary range may be approximately $100,000+, depending on location and seniority. Generous benefits package, tailored to the jurisdiction the candidate is in, including a 9% employer pension contribution.

Established in 2021, the Funder Forum (FF) is an informal forum of actors and organisations engaged in assessing and discussing the energy transformations that are taking place globally. As an informal forum, the coordination is at the center of the work of Funder Forum. Foundations are the primary and only participants in the network. This role is being fiscally sponsored by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
