ABOUT US

At Issue One we’re focused on the core civic issue of our time — solving the root cause of the gridlock crippling Washington and degrading our democracy. Founded in 2013, we are a nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to political reform that strengthens our democracy and returns government to the American people. While united in our passion for democracy reform, Issue One recognizes that diversity, equity, and inclusion are paramount for achieving our mission and we’re striving to build such values throughout the entire organization.

POSITION

We’re seeking a talented, entrepreneurial, and eager Development Manager who can lead all donor communications, manage our mid-level ($1k to $10k) donor portfolio, and oversee our year-end fundraising campaign. The ideal candidate will partner with and provide support to the CEO and Chief Development Officer in managing some major donor relationships. Working closely with the Senior Development Associate, the Manager will identify prospects and consult on event planning.

The selected candidate must have excellent writing and relationship management skills. They must also thrive in a flexible environment with a small team, and be driven to achieve ambitious revenue goals. Skills and talent will be prioritized over experience and ample opportunity for professional growth will be offered.

BENEFITS

Issue One has developed a comprehensive benefits package that invests in our staff to improve their overall health and promote a strong work/life-balance. All full-time employees are eligible for a platinum health plan with 100 percent of the premium paid by Issue One. Between holidays, vacation, personal time, and office-wide closures, all staff receive more than 50 paid days off in their first year of employment. In addition to providing reimbursements for internet and wellness expenses, Issue One promotes a hybrid work environment that encourages working from home but establishes monthly in-person opportunities to foster relationships between colleagues. All staff are encouraged to take part in professional development throughout the year, and the organization hosts several opportunities for fun and fellowship.

Responsibilities

  • Create and oversee major donor communications, including weekly updates, biannual reports, and one-on-one correspondence;
  • Produce high-quality donor reports and gather compelling information for both major donor and foundation audiences;
  • Lead campaign to improve engagement with mid-level donors and cultivate such relationships to increase giving;
  • Partner with communications team for online fundraising campaigns and manage direct mail fundraising program;
  • Work alongside CDO and CEO to continually improve and innovate around donor relations and plan necessary travel, meetings, events, and correspondence to achieve desired outcomes; and
  • Partner with Senior Development Associate to maintain an accurate revenue dashboard, identify prospects, and serve as a backup for gift processing.

Job-Related Experience

  • Three to five years’ experience working in a nonprofit development department is desired. Willing to train talented candidates with less experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred. Relevant experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • High computer proficiency with advanced skills in Google, Word, and Excel.
  • A strong track record or interest in managing donor relationships.
  • Strong writing skills with demonstrated excellence in written communications, including proficiency in grammar, editing, and proofreading.
