Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation

Associate Vice President for Foundation, Corporate and Community Giving

Moffitt Cancer Center (Moffitt) is dedicated to one lifesaving mission: to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer. The Tampa-based facility is one of only 51 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, a distinction that recognizes Moffitt’s scientific excellence, multidisciplinary research and robust training and education. Moffitt’s expert nursing staff is recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center with Magnet® status, its highest distinction. With more than 7,500 team members, Moffitt has an economic impact in the state of $2.4 billion. The cancer center opened its doors 35 years ago (1986), and today sees more than 475,000 outpatient visits a year in addition to inpatient admissions – from every county in Florida, every state in the nation and more than 130 countries. The original 364,000-square-foot hospital is now part of a 3.5 million-square-foot enterprise that includes expanded facilities within the original 17-acre footprint, as well as two off-site outpatient treatment centers, a new 10-story surgical hospital under construction and several outpatient programs located within affiliate institutions. Most excitingly, Moffitt recently recruited a new CEO, Dr Patrick Hwu, who began his tenure in November 2020. This new leader has ambitious, innovative and inspiring plans for Moffitt in the next ten years, which the Foundation will play a major role in delivering.

The Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, the fundraising arm of the cancer center, has also seen dramatic growth. It is now comprised of 40 professionals who last year raised $33.8 million. Foundation President Maria Muller assumed her position in December 2018 and quickly focused its advancement team on systematic cultivation of major and principal gifts, leading Moffitt to the highest fundraising total in its history in FY 2021. Her goal is to continue to increase annual revenues in a sustainable way and to build new relationships and pipelines to prepare the Foundation and Board for a major campaign. As she continues to build out her team with distinguished advancement professionals, she is now seeking an Associate Vice President (AVP) for Foundation, Corporate and Community Giving, who will join two other AVP’s; the AVP for Individual Philanthropy Programs and the AVP for Operations. The three AVP’s make up the Senior Team of the Foundation, reporting to the Foundation President. The AVP will have the opportunity to significantly grow three critically important components of Moffitt's fundraising program -- Foundation, Corporate and Community Giving – and oversee the events team.

As part of the Foundation’s leadership team, the AVP of Foundation, Corporate and Community Giving will formulate and implement strategies to maximize philanthropic revenues, develop the skills of the team, and play an important role as an ambassador in the local community and beyond. The AVP will lead and motivate a team of ten events and fundraising professionals. This position also will collaborate with a strong events team to oversee and grow philanthropic support for two major events each year. The Miles for Moffitt race which includes Run/Walk, wheelchair and kids races, has raised millions that have been used to leverage nearly $20 million in federal support. Moffitt’s annual Magnolia Ball gala raised $3.6 million in 2019 and has garnered more than $45 million since its inception. In addition to events hosted by Moffitt, third party community events organized by supporters collectively raise more than $1 million for the Center each year, with enormous potential to grow this revenue.

The new AVP will be a strategic thinker and possess exceptional leadership qualities such as an open, creative problem-solving approach, and a collaborative and collegial spirit. The candidate should have a minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in development and 3-5 years of direct management experience. Demonstrated fundraising success in a complex organization is required, and experience in a healthcare or higher education institution is preferred. A bachelor’s degree is required and master's degree is preferred. In addition, the successful AVP candidate will have excellent leadership skills to mentor and motivate a team, clear and persuasive communication skills and a successful record of creating productive Foundation, corporate and community partnerships.

All applications, nominations and inquiries are invited. Applications should include, as separate documents, a CV or resume and a letter of interest addressing the themes in the profile available at www.wittkieffer.com.
