Partnership for American Democracy

The Partnership for American Democracy (PFAD) is a collaborative nerve center attracting and directing greater attention, energy, and resources to initiatives to strengthen democracy. Americans across the country and the political spectrum recognize our democracy is in trouble: according to a CBS News poll from January 2021, 71% of Americans say our democracy is threatened. Many people are motivated to improve the health of our nation but lack entry points to serve. These struggles are set against the backdrop of a national reckoning on issues of racism, equity, and inclusion, and abroad, rising authoritarianism threatens the rehabilitation of American democracy.

PFAD is hosted by the Office of American Possibilities and is housed at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, the organization’s not-for-profit fiscal sponsor. Founded in July 2021, PFAD has been created at a historic moment to turn away from division, cynicism, and dysfunction and chart ahead toward unity, engagement, and democratic progress. PFAD is committed to renewing the American creed and proving to the country and to the world that our unique system of self-government can once again come together to solve problems at scale.

PFAD is hiring an entrepreneurial Senior Director of Advancement to lead a fast-paced, high-performing fundraising department. This leader will be an experienced development professional who will help shape the organizational strategy for philanthropy and serve as an ambassador for the organization’s urgent mission to strengthen American democracy.

The candidate will create, lead, and expand a comprehensive development office for a highly entrepreneurial not-for-profit start-up organization. S/he will be responsible for the creative and strategic engagement of PFAD’s varied stakeholders, including National Leadership Council members in business, religion, military, government, and not-for-profit, and partner with executive leadership to develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan. The ideal candidate will raise funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations for PFAD’s annual operations, key projects, and community partners.

S/he will report to the founding Chief Executive Officer. As PFAD continues to expand, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to recruit and lead a high-caliber development team. The candidate will engage and serve as key liaison to the Office of American Possibilities and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisers on funding related matters.

PFAD has retained Freeman Philanthropic Services, LLC to facilitate this executive recruitment. Please send confidential inquiries and applications directly to Freeman Philanthropic Services, LLC via e-mail at PFAD@glfreeman.com.
