creativity to further improve people's lives. The Assistant Vice
Chancellor, Development (AVC) is responsible for providing vision
and leadership for campus-based development programs and overseeing
Central Advancement development including Major/Principal Gifts.
The Assistant Vice Chancellor will report to the Associate Vice
Chancellor, University Advancement and collaborate with Campus
Development Officers to coordinate donor priorities across UCI
ensuring philanthropic aspirations are identified and managed in a
unified and strategic manner across the campus. This role is
responsible for personally leading a staff of five fundraising
professionals and managing a portfolio of leadership donors,
cultivating, and soliciting prospects at the $1 million level and
above with an annual fundraising goal of $5 million, and will play
a key role in the planning, execution, and direction of UC Irvine's
Brilliant Future campaign. The Assistant Vice Chancellor will share
in the group's success of approximately $15-20M annually. The AVC
will work in close partnership with the Advancement Executive
Leadership Team to define and accomplish the university's overall
annual and campaign fundraising goals.Required: At least ten years
of demonstrated and documented experience with development program
planning, where the incumbent was responsible for closing multiple
annual gifts at the million-dollar gifts as well as successfully
managing fundraisers to close million dollars plus gifts. Proven
track record in successfully developing and implementing a
multi-million-dollar fundraising campaign at a four-year
institution. Deep experience overseeing and successfully managing
to positive measurable fundraising results a moves management,
metrics-based major gifts, and development program. Proven
management experience and skills to effectively organize, direct,
motivate, mentor, and evaluate other professional and support staff
and volunteers is essential. Bachelor's degree in related area
and/or equivalent experience/training. Advanced knowledge of all
aspects of fundraising, donor, and public relations, including
principles, concepts, techniques, and procedures. Advanced
knowledge of design and implementation of identification,
cultivation and solicitation strategies and techniques. Advanced
skills to conceive, design, implement and evaluate effective
fundraising programs. Advanced knowledge of leadership and
management principles, concepts, techniques, etc. Ability to
anticipate problems and take necessary action to eliminate or
mitigate potential negative effects. Advanced knowledge of the
campus and/or medical center, its achievements, vision, mission,
goals, objectives, and issues of concern both on campus and/or
medical center as well as in higher education, research and medical
care or clinical operations. Advanced leadership/management skills,
including skills to select, train, mentor, motivate and evaluate
all levels of staff. Advanced written, oral, and interpersonal
communication skills to establish and maintain effective working
relationships within all organizational levels and with outside
constituencies. Advanced skills to meet predetermined goals and
objectives, including securing gifts and meeting fundraising
objectives. Advanced political acumen skills. Resourcefulness in
finding appropriate solutions to problems and initiative in
presenting alternatives and implementing solutions to ensure
effective change. Advanced strategic planning, critical thinking,
analytical and persuasion/negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability
to support and contribute to the University's commitment to
diversity. Advanced marketing skills. Possess traits of good
judgment, confidentiality, and discretion in communicating with
colleagues and constituents. Knowledge and understanding of
information systems and databases that support institutional
advancement. Articulate and persuasive presenter to large and small
groups to effectively represent UCI to internal and external
constituents. Ability to establish objectives, set performance
standards, and organize and motivate development staff to achieve
fundraising goals, utilizing a strong bottom-line orientation.
Demonstrated leadership skills to inspire confidence as well as to
motivate others. Working knowledge of the principles and practices
of development in a major research university setting. The ability
to conceptualize and implement development programs of large size
and complexity, including the ability to envision and articulate
future direction. Preferred: Graduate degree preferred. Knowledge
and understanding of shared academic governance and its
relationship to an effective fundraising program in higher
education. Familiarity with the key issues facing public higher
education, particularly as they impact a public research
university, is required. Special Conditions Required: May work
occasional evenings and weekends. May be required to drive on
occasion in order to perform the routine or essential job
responsibilities for the position. Must possess a valid California
driver license and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
