Job Summary:

 

The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for securing major gifts ($10,000+) for the AOPA Foundation.

 Responsibilities:

  1. Portfolio Management
    • Working collaboratively with Manager of Development Research, qualify, contact and cultivate potential donors from prospect pool of nearly 300,000 AOPA members
    • Effectively manage a portfolio of donors and prospects with the capacity to make annual gifts in the $10,000 - $50,000 range
    • Make compelling and effective face-to-face presentations to donors and prospects
  • Donor Strategy and Reporting
    • Working with Manager of Development Research, strategize and secure high-level donor meetings for President, Executive Director, and other senior leaders
    • Working collaboratively with Director of Database Administration and Reporting, provide donor meeting notes, contact reports and next steps in a timely manner
    • Working collaboratively with Executive Director, coordinate and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key internal and external relationships by cultivating philanthropic support and forging new opportunities
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree with at least six years’ experience in fundraising or development
    • Willingness to travel nationwide extensively
    • Experience using donor management system
    • Adhere to industry standards and best practices and appropriately handle confidential information
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize appropriately to meet deadlines
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • A diplomatic and tactful approach, especially when communicating with colleagues and supporters
    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • Aviation industry interest required; experience preferred
