General Purpose:  Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Public Service Careers, the Sr. Associate Director will lead the development and implementation of career education and student advising, in areas under the OCS cohort Common Good & Creative Careers, specifically careers in the common good (i.e. nonprofit, education, and government). The Sr. Associate Director will oversee several high-profile fellowships supporting student summer experiences, including the Women in Government Fellowship, Yawkey Fellowship and the Yale Alumni Community Service Fellowship. The Senior Associate Director will manage one Senior Administrative Assistant and one student fellow. This role will conduct ongoing research aimed at developing expertise in career paths pursued by Yale graduates. The Sr. Associate Director advises undergraduate and graduate students in their pursuit of job opportunities, offering guidance and insight on both immediate and long-term career planning. The Senior Associate Director will also serve as the primary advisor to students interested in international internships, including housing and work authorization support. Collaborating with the employer relations cohort within OCS, the Senior Associate Director will also support employer development initiatives, as needed.

Required Education and Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and five years of experience in a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage people and large-scale projects involving a high degree of detail and requiring strong organization skills. Ability to make independent, responsible decisions that create positive outcomes for students, alumni, donors, and employers.
  • Knowledge of public service and non-profit career paths and job opportunities. Strong interpersonal skills and aptitude transferable to the task of advising students and providing strategic guidance to employers.
  • Superior ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of internal and external constituents. Excellent public speaking, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Facility with MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; expertise with database systems. A team player that works well with other members of the staff.
  • Ability to independently initiate programmatic and individual activities while functioning in a team setting. A leader with a positive and can-do attitude that supports the mission of the school. Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Preferred Education and Experience: Prior experience working with a non-profit, education or government entity is highly valued. Prior management experience.
