Job Summary

The Associate Consultant is an individual with experience in a nonprofit setting who has the desire to utilize their expertise as a catalyst to becoming a consultant. This person will provide project management, analysis and writing, production of client presentations, and support/service to our consultants. The Associate Consultant will be assigned to our healthcare practice, but may occasionally work across sectors, which may include nonprofit universities, colleges, independent schools, museums, premier healthcare, environmental, and arts organizations in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and elsewhere. The individual will report to the Managing Principal who leads the healthcare practice and will work closely with consultants at all levels in the group as part of a team to enable our clients to be successful in meeting their missions. This is a remote position, and the finalist will work from their home office.

Responsibilities

Participate in select client projects, including:

  • Campaign Planning
    • In consultation with the Team Lead, develop project timeline
    • Provide client with necessary support (examples of participation request letters, etc.)
    • Coordinate with client and consultant(s) to schedule interviews and ensure that consultant(s) have appropriate research profiles and logistical support for interviews
    • After interviews are completed, compile notes/data and prepare preliminary draft report; convene conference calls with interviewing consultant(s) as needed
    • In consultation with the Team Lead, prepare or support the preparation of the final report(s) in appropriate formats
    • Conduct interviews with the client’s top prospective donors and philanthropic opinion leaders
  • Assessments and similar projects
    • In consultation with the Team Lead, develop project timeline
    • Work with client to acquire and organize appropriate data and background materials
    • Coordinate with client and consultant(s) to schedule interviews and ensure that consultants have appropriate background information and logistical support for interviews
    • After data/materials review and interviews are completed, compile notes/data and prepare preliminary draft report
    • In consultation with the Team Lead, prepare or support the preparation of the final report(s) in appropriate format
    • Informal benchmarking and/or other client data requests
    • Conduct interviews with the client’s staff

Participate in business development and internal firm projects, including:

  • Manage proposal and sales presentations in coordination with appropriate consultants and management staff
  • Prepare special studies conducted by Marts & Lundy and members of the practice group
  • Organize, analyze, and synthesize data and trends for organizational assessments (budgets, historical fundraising data, staffing, and campaign reports) and for feasibility studies (using Alchemer or other survey software)
  • In support of the Team Lead’s client needs, develop organizational charts, timelines, and presentations for internal and external meetings

Key Requirements

  • Exceptional organization and project management abilities
  • Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills – written and verbal
  • Ability to independently implement projects from inception to completion, adhering to strict deadlines in a fast-paced and detail-driven environment
  • Technical literacy; strong experience with MS Office software – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint – some experience with SQL, SPSS, Advizor, Tableau, R, Python and Adobe Professional is a plus
  • Proficiency in gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing data
  • Knowledge of, and passion for, the advancement of philanthropy
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Graduate degree preferred
  • 3+ years working in a development or fundraising office

It is anticipated that this person will work out of their home with the necessary equipment and supplies to perform their duties provided by Marts & Lundy. This position typically will require project-based travel (outside of pandemic restrictions) and may include overnight and airplane travel for several days during the week.
