Executive Directors of Development

Hoag Hospital Foundation

Newport Beach and Irvine, California

Hoag Hospital Foundation (HHF), the philanthropic arm of one of the top-ranked hospitals in California and the highest-ranked hospital in Orange County, seeks two outstanding development leaders to join the organization at an exciting moment following significant investment in and growth of both Hoag Hospital (Hoag) and HHF, which has contributed to further and reaffirm Hoag as a leader on the forefront of advanced care. In December 2020, Hoag completed the Hoag Promise Campaign, its first-ever, record-setting comprehensive fundraising endeavor which encompassed every institute, center, and aspect of Hoag while also including programs, innovation opportunities, education, research, technology, facilities, and clinical staff for each area. With more than 100 of Hoag’s physicians serving as members of the Physician Campaign Leadership Group, the campaign also embodied the strong partnership between key hospital stakeholders and HHF. Far surpassing its $627 million goal, the Hoag Promise Campaign secured over $760 million to support Hoag’s continued clinical leadership, innovative spirit, and transformative potential. Building upon this upward trajectory and momentum, HHF is currently focused on a short-term capital campaign to raise $300 million to expand the Hoag Hospital Irvine campus, a project that will invest more than $1 billion to add new services to Orange County. The capital campaign will serve as the bridge to a new comprehensive campaign, likely to begin with a $1 billion working goal.

To help maintain this level of success while simultaneously readying Hoag and HHF for future, more ambitious fundraising initiatives, the Foundation seeks two strategic and accomplished executive directors of development, both of whom report to the vice president for development and provide collaborative leadership, strategic vision, and exemplary management of teams of development professionals to maximize the Foundation’s overall philanthropic potential.

The Opportunities:

HHF seeks an executive director of development to drive and oversee the fundraising and engagement initiatives and teams for the Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute (PFNI); the Jeffrey Carlton Heart and Vascular Institute; the Mary and Dick Allen Diabetes Center; Nursing; and CATALiST: Center for Advanced Technology and Life Sciences Translation, building upon their successes while crafting comprehensive, multi-year strategies for continued fundraising growth and effectiveness. This executive director will provide strategic guidance to staff and physician partners, particularly the endowed chair of the PFNI, and represent the Foundation, institutes, and centers to internal and external constituents such as board members, leadership council members, senior hospital administrators, and community leaders.

The Foundation also seeks an executive director of development to lead the fundraising engagement initiatives for Hoag Hospital Irvine, Hoag Orthopedics, and Hoag Health Centers and Urgent Care. In crafting and implementing a comprehensive development strategy to drive philanthropic support for the rapidly expanding Irvine campus, this executive director will define funding priorities; craft compelling cases for support; build, guide, and motivate a high-performing team; and position the Irvine campus’ development operation for success, both as it relates to achieving current initiatives, such as the Hoag Expansion Capital Campaign, and long-term success. A significant building opportunity, this role requires an entrepreneurial approach and a proven track record of serving as the architect and builder of a strategic and systematic fundraising and constituent engagement operation.

These are exceptional opportunities for motivated, results-oriented development professionals with collegial and accessible management styles to contribute to a culture that is dedicated to excellence. These executive directors will have a deep appreciation and passion for the mission, vision, and core values of Hoag and HHF, along with leadership styles that both foster and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. A bachelor’s degree is required.
