The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is
seeking an Assistant Director, Foundation Relations at The George
Washington University (GW). DAR is responsible for leading the
university’s alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a
culture of philanthropy throughout the university community of
alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and
foundations, patients, and other friends. Our goal is to advance

The Assistant Director, Foundation Relations, reporting to the
Director, Foundation Relations, will help identify and secure
philanthropic support from foundations for various GW priorities
and programs. The Assistant Director will establish effective
working relationships with school/unit fundraisers, department
heads, and faculty and administrative staff of the university to
accomplish foundation fundraising goals.
Researching the giving interests of foundation funders and
staying abreast of philanthropic trends and recent foundation
Identifying funding opportunities and maintaining prospect
databases for assigned areas.
Preparing fundraising materials including, but not limited to,
proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, presentations, and
acknowledgment letters. This includes assisting in the creation of
and drafting original copy as well as editing and formatting as
Gaining a thorough understanding of gift processing between the
Office of Sponsored Projects and DAR, includes using GW systems for
proposal submission and grants management, assisting with routing
proposals through the Office of Sponsored Projects, and reviewing
contracts and agreements.
Maintaining a portfolio of funders with a typical grant size of
less than $100,000 and ensuring proper documentation of fundraising
activities, internal and external.
Leading engagement and stewardship activities by liaising with
administrative departments, drafting reports, performing research
for reports and briefs, and partnering with Donor Relations.
Performing other work-related duties as assigned. The omission

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an
appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the
