The NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) is the country’s first and foremost civil and human rights law organization. Founded in 1940 under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall, who subsequently became the first Black U.S. Supreme Court Justice, LDF was launched at a time when the nation’s aspirations for equality and due process of law were stifled by widespread state-sponsored racial inequality. From that era to the present, LDF’s mission has been transformative–to achieve racial justice, equality, and an inclusive society.

LDF’s litigation, policy advocacy, organizing, and public education programs in the substantive areas of criminal justice, economic justice, education and political participation seek to ensure the fundamental and basic human rights of all people to quality education, economic opportunity, the right to vote and fully participate in democracy, and the right to a fair and just judicial system.

Development and Communications Contracts and Compliance Role:

The LDF Development Department is headquartered in NYC and oversees all fundraising efforts to support LDF’s ongoing programs and operations. The Communications team is also headquartered in NYC, and oversees media relations, traditional and digital content and marketing and brand strategy.

Reporting to both the Chief Development Officer and the Chief Communication and Marketing Officer, and working with the General Counsel, the Manager, Contracts and Compliance will support the contract management and review needs of LDF’s Development and Communications Departments. The ideal candidate will have a fundraising background with an understanding of the business and compliance needs of a Development department and be comfortable communicating externally with donors and organizations contracting with LDF. The Manager, Contracts and Compliance should also be willing to take on special projects as directed.

Subject to LDF’s prior approval, this position may have the option to be remote until Friday, December 31, 2021. Beginning Monday, January 3, 2022, any candidate selected should be prepared to report to work in the office location assigned to this position.

This review will include collaboration with Gift Officers and consideration of compliance, development, and internal operational standards;

  • Liaise with LDF’s Finance Department, Chief Operating Officer, and General Counsel to ensure pricing, specifications, deliverables, timelines and all other special and standard clauses on gift agreements and vendor contracts are appropriate and in compliance with LDF policies;
  • Manage process for statewide registrations, charitable gift annuities, state co-venture and cause related agreements;
  • Maintain existing written gift acceptance policies and procedures and update on an ongoing basis;
  • Update colleagues on grant and contract topics and provide formal and informal training as needed; and
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Development Officer.
