We are seeking a Director of Development and Communications (DODC) to serve as the lead resource development and communications strategist for the Urban League of Greater Atlanta (ULGA). The DODC will collaborate with the President and CEO and Board to create a multi-year plan for increasing revenue in line with ULGA's strategic goals. This key leadership role collaborates across agency divisions and programs to develop and achieve annual and long-term strategic goals, including financial and capacity-building efforts. The Director will focus on the stewardship of relationships and responsibilities regarding the design and implementation of a comprehensive framework for developing new partnerships and laying the foundations for and execution of a $10 million-dollar five-year capacity building campaign in 2022.


The DODC will successfully lead and manage a development and communications team of experienced, innovative, and skilled professionals to include a grant writer/researcher, publicist, web master, public relations consultant, a development and communications coordinator/specialist, event planning strategist, data coordinator, interns, and volunteers. The DODC will also cultivate and coordinate relationships with media partners in television, cable, social media, radio, and other media outlets.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the President and CEO, Board, Community Partners, Auxiliaries, and others to develop and execute a development strategy that yields measurable results
  • Develops and implements programs to identify, cultivate solicit and steward donors with an emphasis on maximizing revenue across all program divisions in ULGA
  • Set and achieve goals on cultivating and expanding the level of giving among our current portfolio of donors
  • Set goals to identify and develop a portfolio of new prospective donors at the mid and major gift level
  • Works strategically to develop efforts that align with donor priorities
  • Works collaboratively with all division leaders within ULGA to develop fundraising strategies, grants and proposals that align with existing and new organization objectives and
  • Leads the development and execution of an effective integrated communications strategy that builds upon our existing branding and marketing strategy to ensure that it supports all fundraising and program promotion efforts through in-house advertising, graphic design, social media, direct mail, and website, etc.
  • Provide leadership and coordination to the grant writing function
  • Ensure development and on-going maintenance of appropriate policies and practices for recording, monitoring, and reporting donor gifts in accordance with agency and accounting standards.
  • Maintain fundraising schedules, objectives, databases and tracking systems to ensure performance
  • Participates as a member of the National Urban League Development Directors

Required Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or economic development, fund
  • Effectively networked within the Atlanta area
  • 5-10 years of experience in a fund development leadership or assistant leadership role for a foundation or community-based organization
  • 5-10 years of strategic planning, grant writing program administration, planning and execution of successful fundraising events
  • Advanced interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills
  • Expert level skills in developing and delivering presentations with impact and results
  • Experience leading a staff and managing a department budget
  • Experience developing, implementing successful capital and capacity building campaigns
  • Experience developing and managing successful communication and branding strategies
  • Experience with CRM/database management

Compensation is negotiable based on experience, competencies, references, and accomplishments.
