About SF New Deal
SF New Deal (SFND) provides supportive services and financial
opportunities for small businesses in San Francisco. SFND works to
address both the symptoms and root causes of inequity by building
pathways which connect local business owners, workers, community
leaders, and neighbors in need, for the benefit of the entire
SFND partners with community organizations and small businesses
to address current health and economic challenges in San Francisco.
Their programs help local businesses stay open, keep workers
employed and provide meals for neighbors in need.
SFND is an innovative nonprofit born out of the Covid-19
pandemic. Launched in March 2020, they quickly evolved from a
volunteer-led emergency relief response into a resourced 501c3 with
a team working together to address some of the city’s most
persistent and intractable challenges.
SFND partners with small businesses and community organizations
to provide income for workers and meals for neighbors in need. They
mobilized rapidly in response to the COVID-19 shutdown,
understanding the impact it would have on restaurants and food
insecure residents. Their model directly funds restaurants in San
Francisco, keeping businesses open, workers employed, and
vulnerable people fed.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, SFND has supported 606 small
businesses, including the distribution of $29M in financial relief.
They have provided 2,642,003 meals for neighbors in need,
delivering between 30,000 to 50,000 meals weekly.

As SF New Deal (SFND) enters its next chapter, the organization
seeks an innovative, strategic Executive Director (ED) who will
provide entrepreneurial leadership to lead the vision and provide
direction to fulfill SFND’s mission and strengthen its capacity and
reach. The ED will lead the organization to achieve even greater
levels of strategic influence, impact, and innovation.
The ED will direct the overall organization, including
developing a long-term strategic plan, championing a clear vision
to build upon the internal culture, overseeing staff and budget
operations, engaging in development activities, building /
maintaining relationships and collaborating with external partners,
and executing both the short and long-term strategy of the
organization. The position reports to the board of directors.
Ideal candidates for the ED position will have extensive
experience in developing and executing visionary and action
oriented strategic plans, managing staff and budgets, fundraising,
overseeing program implementation, and representing an organization
in multiple settings with various audiences. Experience with
reporting to boards, engaging with funders, and familiarity with
local government institutions and small businesses, particularly in
the city of San Francisco are also sought.
Additional Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the mediator and facilitator for various stakeholders
including small businesses, the city of San Francisco and the
public ensuring the successful navigation of the delicate balance
between these stakeholders.

landscape. The ED will have experience adapting to external change
by building and leveraging new approaches to address emerging
challenges. A trailblazer, the successful candidate will have the

continuing to refine opportunities to serve the mission
collaboratively with the staff, board members, community partners,
the city of San Francisco and other key stakeholders.
A Strategic and Operational Leader Motivated by SFND’s vision the
ED will be a strategic and results-oriented leader. An effective
‘big picture’ strategist, the ED will understand and implement best
practices for organizational management, ensuring that overall
day-to-day operations are aligned with strategic goals. Deeply
invested in staff voice, this individual will be experienced in
leading a dynamic and expert staff to meet organizational goals
through teamwork and by effectively leveraging individual
strengths. The ED will be skilled at listening to and learning from
others, with a deep commitment to fostering a transparent,
empowering and productive organizational culture shaped by
collaboration and partnership. Fundamentally, the successful
candidate will believe in empowering the staff and maximizing the
resources of the board members to drive SFND with the right focus
in the right areas in order to maximize the impact of the

The ED will have the ability to continually strengthen SFND’s
powerful sense of shared purpose by empowering and engaging others
in facing the opportunities and challenges ahead for small
businesses and food insecurity in San Francisco. This leader
will be skilled at building effective relationships both internally
and externally, guiding staff as they work in concert toward a
broader vision and set of goals. An empathic and values-driven
leader, the ED will be able to achieve consensus among differing
opinions while building trust among a highly engaged set of
funders, board members, partners, city partners and staff. The ED
will bring an instinctively inclusive leadership philosophy that
assures the personal and professional development and growth of all
staff. Leading by example, the ED will demonstrate transparency,
humility, empathy, respect, and a sense of humor. The ED will be an
individual of unquestioned integrity, ethics and values; someone
who can be trusted without reservation.

understanding of the evolving racial justice landscape, the
successful candidate will lead the organization’s efforts to

advancing racial justice and will be known as an active listener
and responsive, justice-oriented leader. A resourceful coach and
capable facilitator, the ED will have the ability to lead and guide
staff to work collaboratively in support of a more diverse,

candidate will foster a culture where staff can thrive.
An Ambassador and Fundraiser
A high-energy leader, the ED will be able to convey SFND’s
priorities and impact to existing donors, grassroots leaders and
new potential supporters. This leader will have the character and
confidence to effectively fundraise without being in the spotlight.
The ED will have proven experience engaging with grassroots
partners and have the confidence and capability to effectively
engage private and public. The ED will bring an inspirational
approach to generating support for the organization by building
collaboration and buy-in. The ED will be able to effectively
articulate and convey SFND’s mission and priorities to a range of
constituents. Culturally competent, the successful candidate will
have the character and integrity necessary to develop rapport with

Compensation & Benefits
SFND offers excellent medical, dental, and wellness benefits, in
addition to others. The salary range for this opportunity is $160K
- 24 paid days off per year across PTO, sick time, and paid
