The National Council of Jewish Women New York (NCJW NY) seeks a dynamic fundraising professional to lead NCJW NY’s development efforts, maintaining current support while identifying and aggressively seeking new opportunities. In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Development Committee of the Board, the Director will create a comprehensive annual development plan to grow NCJW NY’s $1.1 million in fundraising revenues, and will be responsible for the plan’s execution.

NCJW NY is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Founded in 1894 and inspired by Jewish values, it is one of the oldest and largest affiliates of NCJW, Inc. Through a three-pronged effort of direct social services, education, and advocacy for systemic change, NCJW NY works to address the inequities of the city. All services are non-sectarian.  Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to the Executive Director and will have extensive interaction with Board members and key funders and stakeholders.
  • Staffs the Board’s Development Committee.
  • Serves as a member of the senior leadership team.
  • Supervises and mentors the Development & Communications Manager, who spends 75 percent of their time on development functions.

 Responsibilities

Individual Giving:

  • Implement best practices in moves management to identify, cultivate, steward and solicit existing and prospective major donors.
  • Engage members of the Board and senior staff in donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation as appropriate.
  • Plan, develop, and oversee execution of print and electronic appeals.
  • Conceive and oversee design and production of marketing and promotional materials, for example facts sheets, brochures, and annual reports.

 Special Events:

  • Provide strategic input and limited support to the Executive Director in producing the annual Spring Gala.
  • Create and produce smaller events to engage existing donors and draw in new supporters, including a Fall Luncheon and two or three other events throughout the year, working closely with other staff and volunteer committees.

 Institutional Giving:

  • Identify and cultivate promising grant opportunities from foundation and corporate sources.
  • Track grant proposals, reports, and renewals to ensure timely submissions.
  • Write and submit polished, compelling reports and proposals, gathering information and input from program and finance staff.

Planned Giving:

  • Conceive and execute systematic efforts to increase long-term planned giving revenue.
  • Act as point person on all planned giving inquiries.
  • Track and follow up on all outstanding bequests.  

Requirements:

  • College Degree; relevant graduate degree preferred.
  • Eight to ten years of post-college professional work experience.
  • Three or more years’ experience in fundraising, or in relevant field(s) with transferable skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of managing successful projects and/or events.
  • Facility with Microsoft Office applications, social media, donor database, wealth screening software, and foundation search tools.
  • Knowledge of Jewish philanthropic community a plus.

  • Balance of strategic, long-term thinking as well as flexibility, decisiveness and responsiveness when opportunities arise.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Precision and attention to detail.
  • High degree of perseverance, follow-up and follow-through.
  • Sound judgment and ability to handle sensitive issues.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of NCJW; ability to make a persuasive case for support.
  • Ability to interact comfortably with diverse stakeholders in a community-based agency setting, ranging from low-income clients to high-level donors.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. 

Salary Range:

Salary range of $80K to $100K, depending on experience and track record.

Excellent benefits and generous leave time package, including 3 weeks’ vacation, all federal holidays, plus all Jewish holidays that fall on weekdays.
