Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Development and Alumnae Relations, the Senior Associate Director of Major Gifts is a member of the College's frontline fundraising team and is responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts of $100,000 and above from alumnae, parents and friends of the College.

Position Summary Information

Essential Duties Summary
1. Independently manage the identification, cultivation, and solicitation process for a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects, which includes a portfolio of prospects in one or more regions outside of New York City.
2. Conduct a minimum of 125-150 substantive contacts annually, with responsibility for managing communications and follow-up, including maintaining detailed activity reports and move management information on all prospects in the portfolio.
3. In addition to meeting a major gift goal, hold annual fund and planned gift conversation goals for the portfolio. This helps build the major gifts pipeline for future substantive asks, aligns ask type with donor's philanthropic priorities, and supports cross departmental collaboration.
4. Serve as department liaison for two or more centers, programs, and/or special interest groups on issues related to strategy, fundraising, and events. Provide consultation and assistance in enabling the center to achieve increased exposure, funding support, and alumnae, parent, donor and community engagement.
5. Represent the major gifts team as an active participant in internal departmental fundraising initiatives, such as Giving Day, Gala, and Reunion.
6. Work collaboratively with the Assistant Vice President, Development and Alumnae Relations to build out and brand the major gift program at the College, including participating in the department's database transition to Salesforce.
7. Interact with College contacts such as Deans, Directors, faculty, officers and other Development staff to consult on needs, formulate proposal strategies, and identify potential donors.
8. Promote positive donor relations and stewardship.
9. Evaluate various gift opportunities and giving vehicles; recommend the most suitable for a particular donor.
10. Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President in the planning and execution of cultivation and solicitation events associated with the major gifts program.

• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Some travel, evenings and weekend hours required.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally.

Required Qualification Summary
• Bachelor's degree required • Minimum of five years of fundraising experience or equivalent sales, marketing, or customer relations experience required, with a proven track record of closing six-figure gifts preferred.

Preferred Qualification Summary
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Experience working in Higher Education preferred
  • Experience working in Salesforce or a facility with a relational fundraising database


Additional Information:
  • This job is primarily performed remotely, but will require a presence in the New York City office for team and full staff meetings and other times as directed by the supervisor.
