Summary Description:  The Senior Multimedia Director at Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) will showcase their creative talents for storytelling through video capture and editing to highlight the work of CCUSA as it seeks to reduce poverty in America. The work will include a blend of video approaches, including feature vignettes with U.S. member agencies and those they help, campaign and other institutional videos, panel conversations, and stories to bring to life CCUSA’s strategic priorities. Distribution channels include email, social media, and event premieres. 

 

This is a dream role for a videographer and storyteller who desires to make a difference in the world and uplift viewers by conveying the impactful work of CCUSA, the domestic humanitarian arm of the Catholic Church and the largest US social-safety-net provider next to the federal government. The position reports to CCUSA’s Chief Communications and Marketing Officer.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Please note: This position is expected to travel 50 percent of the time to capture stories in the field; these stories can be planned in advance with member agencies or occasionally necessitated by a large event, such as a natural disaster, where Catholic Charities member agencies are serving the victims of a storm.

  • Produces content for multiple uses including social media, an institutional magazine, solicitations, and events
  • Edits videos in a creative yet branded way to create and support a consistent voice for CCUSA
  • Delicately tells stories of those who have been helped through Catholic Charities efforts
  • Directs the acquisition and management of equipment (camera, lighting, audio, etc) and the appointment of a new studio in the CCUSA headquarters, keeping all equipment in good working order
  • Directs the work in a collaborative fashion, including engaging the CCUSA Senior Creative Director for art, pre-production, and interview needs
  • Generates on-screen text and graphics for video productions in coordination with CCUSA graphic designers
  • Secure approvals from all video subjects, including obtaining signed releases from individuals who are interviewed or appear for any significant time on camera
  • Blends in-studio videos with online captures (through Zoom, Skype, or other) for group conversations
  • Systematically catalogs all related video footage for b-roll and future use
  • Works with external videographers and agencies for large productions as needed

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Directs podcasts for CCUSA, including the introduction of new podcasts, their branding, and regular publication
  • When in the field, captures still photography for CCUSA to expand stock photo portfolio

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • A general passion and interest in film and meeting new people and telling their stories
  • Excellent interviewing skills, including the ability to draft questions and pivot in the moment as an interview demands
  • A technical command of video, audio, and lighting equipment used to produce high quality videos
  • Excellent editing skills, including experience with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, After Effects, or related editing software suites
  • Thrives on problem-solving during unexpected situations (including storytelling during natural disasters)
  • Experience with lighting and audio capture in diverse environments
  • Comfortable working flexible hours in order to capture a story as it unfolds, including potentially some weekends and evenings
  • Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver video content that meets brand standards and guidelines for CCUSA
  • High level of self-motivation, commitment, and dedication
  • An engaging, upbeat personality that puts people at ease when in front of the camera
  • Ability to think through complex, sequenced tasks
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Professional demeanor and a dedicated work ethic
  • Working knowledge and appreciation of Catholic faith and social doctrine

 

Education & Experience:   

  • BS/BA (or equivalent experience) in film, television, and theatre or equivalent experience
  • Experience working for a nonprofit or Catholic organization (preferred)
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience with a demonstrated excellence in video storytelling and production

                                   

Work Environment:

  • Expect to travel up to 50 percent of the time to capture stories in the field
  • This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight
