TreePeople is an environmental nonprofit organization that is mobilizing people, business, philanthropists, and public agencies to work together to create green, resilient communities by planting trees, capturing rainwater, greening schools, and providing fun environmental educational activities. We inspire, engage, and support the community to increase the urban tree canopy and address climate threats and environmental justice in Southern California.
We are seeking a Foundations Grants Manager to join our development team and support the organization. The ideal candidate will convey our mission and vision in grants, proposals, reports and other written communication. This position will support the private foundation grants portfolio from identification to submission to ensure we maintain $2 million+ per year in private foundation funding. This role is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day operations of all grants administration including but not limited to supervision of the Grants Writer, maintaining existing private and corporate partnerships, researching, and building new relationships with potential funding sources, and supporting the team's communication needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee all grants throughout their
full life cycle. This includes but is not limited to research of
opportunities, preparation of written documentation,
execution, submission, and compliance reporting.
Act as the primary liaison between
grant funders and TreePeople and TreePeople Land Trust.
Develop and write funder required
reports for programs. This includes collaboration with directors,
managers, and staff regarding progress of grant funded
projects.
Maintain existing foundation
relationships and forge new relationships through cultivation and
networking.
Proactively identify potential
funding sources and opportunities for TreePeople and TreePeople
Land Trust programming.
Manage the grants calendar, ensuring
timely and accurate completion of the grant life cycles: research,
outreach, LOIs, proposals, site visits, and reporting.
Advise on grant acknowledgments and
other funder communications to ensure both compliance and
relationship-building.
Assist in the development of the
annual fundraising plan and projections for revenue from foundation
sources.
Create materials for donors and
funders to become familiar with our programs.
Assist the leadership team to prepare
for funding opportunity encounters.
Regularly review grant process and
workflow to ensure timely and smooth collaboration across the
organization.
Stay abreast of significant funding
trends related to the environment, climate change, equity and any
other relevant funding opportunities.
Supervise Grant Writer position.
Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 5 years of successful grants management experience.
- Demonstrated experience successfully cultivating foundation grantors. Existing working relationships with prospective grantors.
- BA/BS or higher degree in public policy, urban planning, English, environmental studies (water, forestry, urban sustainability), public health, or a related field.
- Excellent, concise, and persuasive writing skills.
- Fundamental understanding of nonprofit budgeting and/or proficiency in basic bookkeeping.
- Excellent organizational skills and familiarity with grant research and tracking systems.
- Exceptional management abilities with the ability to model positive influence within the team.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications desired.
- Working knowledge of Salesforce is preferred.
- Excellent oral communications and public presentation skills.
- Positive attitude, passion for the environment and equity and team spirit.
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising, program management, or volunteer leadership is highly valued.
- Must be flexible in work schedule to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
